GROUP CHALLENGE!!!

I think reminding yourself everyday why we want this change in our lives is a big motivator (its part of the beck program for changing your thinking)

I keep a deck of index cards with all the reasons I want to lose weight and I read them twice a day, more if i find myself wanting to compromise my food plan.  It really helps.  I read them and I think do you want this advantage or do you want the food.  Can't have both.  Here's part of my list.  Love to hear some of your reasons.  (I also keep response cards, I'll share them at another time)

The Avantages of Losing Weight

-i won't have to ask for the seatbelt extender on the airplane

-i won't scan the room to see if i am the biggest person there

-i will, for the first time in my adult life, be able to cross my legs!

-i will enter an elevator and not wonder if they are thinking "have we hit our overload limit"

-i will be able to think of something other than this food obsession.  i will have more space in my head to dream big dreams

-i will find a life not limited by the restraints that being overweight has put on me

-my blood pressure will improve

-my diabetes will become manageble and i will avoid the horrid complications of this disease

-my children will be proud of me and they will know they have a mom who never gave up

-i will ride a bike...wow

-i will swim and swim

-i will turn over in bed with ease

-maybe my thighs won't run together!

-i will have more energy

-i will ride a scooter on vacationSmile

-i will ride in a convertible and feel the wind in my hair and not be worried people are starring at me.   i will ride in a little car and feel ok

-i will go to the water park with my family-

i will go shopping with another female, wow that would be a first.  I never allowed myself this because of being so embarrassed of my size

-i might get a pedicure or a manicure

-maybe i could have the courage to get a massage

-intimacy with my husband would be easier

-i will leave the granny panties in the storeEmbarassed

This are just a few of my hopes and dreams.  As you can see I have denied myself alot of joy in life because of this weight. You could argue that some of them i could already do, but the thing about being so big all your life is that you come to believe either you can't do things, or more often than not,,,,,you do not allow yourself to do things because you feel such shame.  I want to break away from all the shame and really truly be free.  Today, this minute that is what is most important to me.  It is more important that any treat I could eat.  Reminding myself daily really keeps the prize front and center.  For me, weight loss will truly be a dream come true.  I do not want to leave this world without realizing this dream.  Won't you join me and list your reasons.  I'm sure we share so many in common and I may find some of your reasons to add to my list.

I like this challenge.  Now let's see...

I want to be able to sit on the floor with my 2 yr olds @ storytime and not have difficulty getting back up.

I want to be able to buy clothes at ANY store.

I want to enjoy buying clothes.

I want to go on a water slide or an amusement ride with my older boys.

I want to stop worrying that everyone is thinking how fat I am wherever I go.

I want to like looking at family photos.

But most of all I want to lift this "weight" off my shoulders and enjoy life!

Just an FYI, Lane Bryant and Torrid have some High Heeled Knee High boots!! They are built especially for us! And some are very sexy!!

Jplgcace,

How nice to meet you.

I really do want to look good in my family reunion photos.  They will be able to say Oh!  Those must be the 2010 photos.  There's Laurie (texmom) and doesn't she look Good!

Thanks nomorefatchick,

But until I take off some pounds I don't think my feet will take that kind of shoe.  I have to have special shoes with orthopedic inserts for plantar fascitis.  But perhaps not too long from now.

I did own some of those Torrid boots a few years ago, and I loved them except I still couldn't walk in such high heels and they had NO ankle support. They never seem to have flat high boots; I see flat high boots at DSW all the time but usually can't zip them up at all. I did manage to get one pair zipped last week! They were kinda ugly but at least I could get them on. I didn't buy them but it gave me hope that a non-ugly pair will fit soon.

I just simply need to be healthier.  I didn't really have an ah-hah moment - it was more a culmination of a sense of feeling generally crappy.

So, I decided I want to be healthy, and to that end I'll need to lose weight.  I had tried a handful of times in the past (beyond just working out - actually dieting as well), but I'd eventually lose interest and slip back into the normal routine.

As far as material motivations, I have some really cool cult movie t-shirts that I will be too small for soon.  So I went ahead and ordered 3 new ones that are 3 sizes smaller.  Two are limited editions, and the other was never available in my old size.  They are hanging in my closet, waiting patiently for the Spring (or maybe late winter).

One day, I decided I was simply going to lower my calories.  Of course, the first day I decide to do it, I meet my wife at a mexican restaurant with giant enchiladas and amazing cheese dip.  I stuck with the salsa for the most part, and got a half-order enchilada (which I only ate half of and had the rest for dinner that night).

As I think about what I'll do (or be able to do) once I reach my goal, I don't really have any big plans.  I know I'll have a much easier time buying clothes.  I'll probably get a new suit.  Hopefully, my shoe size will go down - but I doubt it as I have been a 13/14 since junior high.

And you know what they say about guys with big feet, right?

Yep, they have a horrible time finding reasonably priced dress shoes.

Both my hubby, son and son-in-law have size 14 feet.  We have to do a little searching to find shoes, but not too much.

JC Penny's carries size 14 shoes.  My son bought some nice shoes from Red Wing for work...protective toe tennies.  And got every day shoes at Carnival Shoes.

Hubbie is 300 pounds, Son is 220, SIL is 155.  All size 14.  I am thinking unless your feet are large from holding fluids, or flatended out so they are wider they won't change much.  Most likely they aren't going to get much shorter.

My feet shrank by about half a size when I had lost less than fifty lb then a little more after a few more months (ranging 8 1/2 - 9 1/2 depending on the brand). I had to replace all my flats and start wearing heavier or multiple layers of socks with boots and other slip-on type shoes. Sneakers are the only things that still fit because I can just lace them tighter. My feet look bonier now if not smaller, so I think I lost fat in them and they stopped swelling in the heat so much. Anyway my point is your feet will probably shrink by maybe a size but not much more.

It's a pipedream of mine.  I was wearing 13/14 back in school when I was playing basketball, football, and tennis.

Yeah, I would love to take classes.  I want to learn to salsa, do ballroom dance and funny as it sounds, I really want to take a pole dance fitness class.  I just feel too awkward.  But, I am going to take a belly dancing class to help me lose weight -- so that will be interesting.

Oh Cid,

You are brave to take belly dancing classes.  I would be afraid!  You go!!!  Let us know how it goes.

I want to be able to walk into a room full of people and not be afraid to sit down in a chair because I might break it.

I want to shop for clothes that don't have "x" after the number.

I want to able to sit in a booth at a restaurant instead of asking for a table because I can't fit in a booth.

I want to go places and  participate with the others on our vacations.

I want my husband to be proud of me when he introduces me to others.

I want to be able to put a picture on my Facebook for my old friends from high school to see when they look me up...  I am 3 times the size I was back then.

I want to live to grow old with my husband.

I want to see my children become grandparents.

I want to feel proud of myself and not disgusted for allowing me to do this to myself.

And with each others help - I think we will all make our goals and realize our dreams.

Tex, I will for sure let you know how it goes.  I'm excited because it's something I have always wanted to do, but I'm nervous, too.  But I have heard it's a good type of dancing for bigger girls, so I will see if the rumors are true.  :)

Lyn,

I want to help others fulfill each dream.  When I lose this weight I am somehow going to help other people lose it too. (And not like Jillian on Biggest Loser...though I understand her passion).

In the movies they are often big girls who do belly dancing.  But for me to do it????? I don't see it right now.  Perhaps later when I'm not a MegaGirl.

Tex,

I think you already help all of us....If we could elect a captain for our "team" , you would be it.

You are truly the motivator on this site.

Lyntex,

I don't know how much help I can be, but encouraging others helps me.  We need each other.

I agree,

texmom you are a great cheerleader for all of us

*/*  (that's me with pompoms, lol)

flirtin mom,

I can tell you've lost weight from your pom pom pic.
