Are you motivated by cool, astronomical events like meteor showers? Get out this weekend!
Shooting stars are set to grace the night sky with a spectacular light display this weekend.
The annual Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak during the early hours of Monday, but it will be visible from Saturday night until Tuesday morning.
"If we're lucky, on Sunday night and Monday morning we might see as many as 100 meteors an hour," some expert was quoted....
Maybe my boyfriend and I are the only astronomy dorks out there, but I still think you should give it a shot!! You need no equipment, just a good, comfortable chair and a dark place. The further away from a city you are, the easier it should be to spot, but gosh! That's a huge meteor shower. The Leoneid (sp?) meteor shower earlier this year was super spectacular, and it wasn't as fast as this one is supposed to be. (Dress in layers if you go---I always alternate between freezing and too warm, and will you let me know if you go?? ( :
My bf and I closed yesterday on our first place, and I will for sure be out despite all the moving nonsense this weekend!

Sounds interesting, thanks
I mentioned it to my daughter this morning; she said to enjoy myself because she'll be sleeping.
I feel the same way sometimes when the bf geeks out for HOURS with the scope. ( ; She needs her sleep more than stars right now.
Thanks SO much for bring this up. I LOVE meteor showers, they make me happy. :) If you didn't mention this I would have totally missed it. :(
I'm taking my 5-year old son and my husband camping today. We'll be in a prime position to see this, so i will definately wake up my boy and sit outside watching it. I just hope the sky will be clear!
Wow, thank you for sharing! I put it on my calender, it's my only real plan for the weekend so far (well, not really but my only "fun" plan...haha)
So thanks!!!!!
So thanks!!!!!
YAY!
I can not WAIT to hear back reports from all over the US (world?)
Where is everyone located? I'm Midwest, southeast Kansas girl. ( :

It was overcast last night in Colorado, so I saw nothing. Tonight is expected to be best, with the location rising above the northeast horizon at about 9 PM and rising higher over the next several hours, so it should be straight up about mid-night. Good luck shooting star gazers!
From the 3rd cloudiest city in the country here, we actually saw a few!:)
Saw some here last night just after midnight, but couldn't stay up for the peak at 3.00 am. But I usually do watch them every year and also the ones in November.
Cloudless and dark last night, checked a few times and saw one meteor about every 2-3 minutes.
definatly not the only astronomy dorks out there lol, my bf and i maxed out our student overdrafts on an 8" schmidt cassegrain a few years ago. its in manchester at the moment though *stifled sob* so its naked eye for the meteors. missed them last night but will try and make an effort tonight
Cloudy here last night. :(
