OK....so I'm just starting off on my new healthy eating plan. I dont have much weight to loose...just around 15lbs. But my main problem is that i've gone down this road time and time again. I always start off SO motivated but after literally like a week...i'm ready to give up. I'm the kind of person that if I dont see and feel results from the beginning I give up.
What keeps you guys so motivated?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Motivation forum
The fact that even though I might not physically see the results of my hard effort (weighing myself only gives me so much satisfaction), my husband will see the results much more so than I will, because he won't have seen me for 7 months by the time he gets to see me again. While it's not for months from now, I want to get a particular look from him after immediately seeing me, and for him to go, "You look great!" like he did when he first saw me after graduating from bootcamp.
Also, the scale, while going down slowly, is another good motivator. Even if it doesn't go down, it just makes me try harder to see it go down. <3
also, when i really really really really want to eat, and i don't care, i've lost enough now, i just want that ice cream I go to my mirror and take a long, hard look at my tummy. that usually does the trick.
some times you have to start out one thing at a time. especially since you only have 15lbs to lose (i have about that as well). make small changes that start to add up. for me, i had to stop having wine in the house. while that isn't a BIG step, that one little thing has been very significant. not only do i not use up my calories for wine, but it also stopped me from eating too much after i had the wine. for me, wine makes my inhibitions go down when it comes to portion control.
when i hear others (& myself) talk about themselves (or myself) like they do not have, let's call it 'will power' i want to cringe. you have will power, you have motivation, etc, im sure you have completed lots of things in your life where you don't see results immediately but stick it through. just try to tap into that same area.
and treat yourself to any behaivor changes (not just results), even if its just going to the gym on a sunday for 30 minutes.
The sunshine keeps me motivated actually, because there is no better feeling (other than horseback riding) than hiking in the morning sunshine! Find something that makes you feel good.... and keep doing it! Even if you ate junk food last night. It's not the end of the world and it's not the sabotage of your diet :)
In the past I have been the same way, I start out so motivated and things go good for a few weeks, then I don't see results and I stop. But something in me was different this time, and I think that it has to do with this site. I love tracking everything I eat, it's almost like a game for me now, let's see how good I can do today...LOL! I don't weigh myself everyday, I do it once a week, on Friday's, so I have a full week to see the scale go down. As long as I loose something, I'm thrilled and it keeps me going.
One of the best things for me, however, has been going out and taking bike rides with my 7 year old daughter. We have such a great time, and she's go so much energy that she always wants to do it, and she keeps me motivated!!!!
OK and a tad bit of vanity, love to hear people tell me how great I'm looking these days :-)!!!!!
What keeps me going is the energy I get from working out. If I skip a workout, I'm really draggy the next day, and it reminds me that I used to feel like that *all* the time. I also happen to really enjoy lifting weights - I enjoy the challenge and seeing the improvement.

This is deep in the shallow end of the pool, but I love the attention I get from men. I get to wear all the nice, form-fitting clothing I couldn't wear when I was in my 20s, and feeling attractive keeps me going when I want to bury my face in a block of cheese.
I hear you! Well, on the clothes issue anyway- I don't think my Hubby would be too keen on the interest from men! LOL! But it'd be nice to feel attractive to other men, then he'd feel lucky that he's with me? HE says he does feel that way anyway, but still....![]()

oh, this looks like a haiku.)
I totally relate to the motivators everyone above has, but I have a few others, too.
Sometimes, if I run into a picture of a model or such who isn't all emaciated and yucky with nice preportions, I'll hang it somewhere I can see to remind me what I am shooting for.
Otherwise, now and then I'll get a dress or a shirt that I really like, that I will have to work to fit into and hang it prominently in my closet. That gives me motivation, plus I'll feel bad for having spent the money if I can't get into it in a reasonable time.
A little silly, but they've always helped me keep going, even when the scale or lack of compliments had me feeling a little down.
What's keeping me motivated is
1. I love challenging myself and eating healthier and lsoing weight is a great challenge for me
2. When I see results (even though it's only a lb or so a week), I want to push myself harder and keep it up.
3. I am so sick of letting myself go. I'm only 21! I should have decent self-esteem about myself. I feel great about myself when I eat right and work out. That keeps me motivated.
I have dieted and excercised so many times before and only lasted a week tops. I'm done with my 2nd week now and pretty happy! I think you just have to find the right plan for you and be in the right state-of-mind.
Good luck this time around!!
Health issues, my daughters wedding next year, having to see my ex at the wedding next year ( oh my did i say that out loud?) and the great supporters on this site are nothing short of wonderfully encouraging-and that is VERY contagious in itself! Lets keep on going down this road everybody!![]()
