How can I get motivated to lose weight?
Asked by anonymous on May 27, 2008 in Weight Loss

I would really like some weight loss motivation. I always feel really guilty and awful after I eat more than I think I should. I know I shouldn't be so hard on myself, especially when there's nothing I can do, but I have been quite miserable lately. I have been trying to lose 15 lbs and I do fine for a couple days, but then I overeat the next few days.  What are the best techniques to get motivated?

Answer

Many people, particularly those who are hard on themselves, have an investment in failing to lose weight.  Their failure stems from fear of vulnerability, or no longer having an excuse, and for many other unique reasons.  (For people trying to get too thin, the body in its wisdom, pushes them to eat.)  Arouse your motivation indirectly by learning to understand your feelings and belief systems.  When you learn accept and love yourself, you will find joy in caring for YOU.  Use the Calorie Count Forums to take advantage of the on line support and to test your beliefs. Consider working with a therapist or dietitian to speed up the process.   Also note that being sedentary can be an emotional drain; people often start to eat healthier after they are energized by an exercise program.
