Motivation after having a bad weekend!
I just thought I'd share the really wise words my sister gave me when I told her what a bad weekend I'd had, healthy eating-wise (I try to avoid the word "diet"!). Basically, I went way off track and ate and drank too much and was really cross with myself. In response, she had this to say (by email, so this is verbatim):
"You have to stop this "failure" and "good" concept. The WHOLE point of this "diet" is that you're supposed to be learning how to balance things i.e. you can eat what you like, it's a matter of balancing how often and how much! Once you reach your goal weight, you have to learn how to cut back to balance days when you eat more. Basically once you're at goal you have to look at things a week at a time - and this week is an excellent time to practise this. This is NOT failure, it's practising how you are going to handle how life really is.
So, you have been doing excellently so far. You did not mess up this weekend, you just changed the balance of how you're eating. This is precisely what B does - if she eats more on one day, she cuts back to even it out. So practise that. :) And even if you do gain weight - so what? You have the tools to remove it again. Keep your eye on the goal, you'll get there. "
Also, my dad pointed out that he bet I'd not been as bad this weekend as I used to be before I'd changed my habits and he was right! So I got positive spin out of it.
And the best news? I weighed this morning and I'm down 1.5 pounds since my weigh-in last week!
I had to share :-)

I needed that!
Caro, thanks for sharing your sister's wise words. It sounds like you have a great family!
JJ :-)
Yeah, I really do! We all have weight issues (to varying degrees) so it's pretty much a given that we try to support each other. I'm the youngest though, so I think I get extra support!
Caro, I needed your sister's words, your dad's too. They're going to help us all so much as we are continually challenged as we strive to adapt healthier eating habits.
Have a great Friday!
hello,
those are some wise words! also, it is great you have such a good family support system
I needed to hear that thank you. I had a horrible Fri- Sun and when I eat carbs without abandon in the evening it shows very dramatically on the scale for me! 122-125!
I just have to remember to not "binge" healthy eating is a way of life not a "diet".
There's always this monday right??
