Hi,

My name is Autumn and I just joined the site myself but can always use more than one motivational buddy. My friend is already on the site and she's here in Japan with me...hope time difference isn't a problem for you. Let me know alright.

Hi Autumn! That's awesome that you're in Japan! Do you live there or are you on vacation?  The time difference definitely is no problem at all! I'm just so happy to have a motivational buddy now!

I'm in the Navy and stationed out here in Japan. Only have 4 months left on my tour then I'm getting stationed in Illinois for 3 years. I'm so ready to get back to the states and near my family. Today is the start of the "new" me. I just got my left arm out of a splint, messed up the tendons in my wrist from spin class 3 wks ago so motivation starts today! It's nearly 8 am here in Korea..my ship is inport here for a few weeks and I get off work in 2 hours. What's your calorie intake and workouts been like so far? or are you just starting out like me? according to this website I need to ingest 1400 calories to lose my 18 lbs or so by July 1st.

ARe you allowed to only have one buddy? I am trying to lose around 10-11 pounds, but sometimes i have a really hard time trying to stay motivated what with being a full time mommy and wife and college student. I really started last week hardcore and lost around 2 pounds, but that could change at any moment. I must say though that this is the week before finals and I am finding that going to the gym is helping me not feel so stressed.

Leronia..I can't speak for steph since this is her forum but I think the more the merrier! My friend Cece had a baby last year, he's almost 1, so she has a little more weight to lose than I do but we're gonna stick it our regardless. I figure if we can both lose 10 lbs then another 5, so on and so forth, we'll keep each other motivated to keep going no matter how far apart we are.

College was tough for me, I gained my first 10 lbs there after high school. Since joining the Navy I've gained another 30 over the past 9 years. I'm hoping to take off 20 and be happy with myself but we'll see. I may go for the full 30 lbs but for the short term I'm gonna kick those 20 to the curb! My schedule is beyond crazy right now, I'm 8 hours on and 8 hours off..so sleep is usually all I want to do. I'm going to fit the gym into my schedule at least once a day for now until my working hours get better next week. I'll have a regular work day then of only 8 hours so I'll have plenty of free time to spend at the gym.

Keep it up and make sure you make short term goals instead of just focusing on the long term. (learned that from The Biggest Loser) My weekly goal is 2 lbs because I know that TBL is a tv show and those people spend 8 hours a day in the gym. I don't have that kind of time so if I get 8 hours a week I can only see so much results. Another thing I learned from the show is to ensure you're eating ENOUGH calories. Starving ourselves does more harm than good so keep a food journal if you can. Keep us posted on your progress so we can pass out high fives for our success. You can do it!!!

Hey Leronia DEFINITELY join us! I have to run off to class now but I'll write more later today!  Good luck at the gym today Autumn!

Steph

At the risk of ruining your thread (it seems like everytime I find a forum that I would like to be a part of, it dies quickly), I would like to join??

I just need people to check in with daily or at least every other day? to keep me on track... I do really well and then something happens and then I make excuses to go off track for a bit... NO MORE EXCUSES!!

I am trying to get back to being motivated- today is true day one of getting back on track and I would love to have some buddies!!

Hey Nutellabella..welcome to the group!! We're all here for motivation to lose weight and let me tell you...I ain't going no where! I've got 20+ lbs to lose and it's gonna take me 6-9 months to do it.

Day one is always scary but you get past it. There's a saying the Navy SEALs use "the only easy day was yesterday" I'm putting it up for a vote for our groups motto because it fits us so well.

Steph started this forum yesterday and it's slowly picking up people. Today is my "true day one" as well and in less than 3 hours I'll be going to the gym for the first time (again) in 3 weeks. My weekly goal is 2 lbs...what's yours?

As the Robinson's say "keep moving forward" (I'm all full of quotes at 11 pm aren't I) and post away.

You can do it!!!

Autumn

Hi!  My name is Carly, For motivation my best friend and I are doing the 31 day challenge you choose an exercise (we chose sit ups) we do 50 sit ups everyday before we go to sleep, we text each other everyday or call to remind each other to them, or to let the other person know they did theres for the day this has motivated me to do it loyally :) Keep up whatever works!

Hey everyone! This is awesome that we're getting more people, because as Autumn said, the more the merrier!  Since I haven't really introduced myself yet, I'll do that now:  My name is Steph and I'm a sophomore in college.  I used to run cross country and track in high school, so I hardly thought about what I ate since I would run most of it off during practice.  Wellll things went downhill once I got to college.  (No more mom to make sure I had healthy meals) + (hardly any more running) = now trying to lose about 25-30 lbs!  The frustrating part is that I loved running and never cared much for the gym, but my foot's been injured and basically out of order for about 6 months now... I think it's finally time for me to face the gym. Yikes!

I just started calorie counting yesterday so I don't really have any averages, but the website says I need 1500... if I'm reading it right!  My weekly goal is to go for 2 lbs as well!

Autumn- Wow that's cool that you're in the Navy- that's really great. Even better that you get to come back to the states in only 4 months!  Your schedule over there sounds ridiculous, with the 8 on 8 off routine- that sounds like it could be tough, but I know you can do it!!  Sounds like a good plan to do the gym once a day! I liked reading your tips from The Biggest Loser- and I really like your idea to make the motto of our group be "The only easy day was yesterday"- so very true :)

Leronia- Welcome! I'm just a college student trying to get rid of some lbs and am having a hard time- I can only imagine how tough it would be being a mom and wife on top of that!  But hey, that's what we're here for- to keep you motivated the whole way through!  Good idea to use the gym as a stress-reliever.  Good luck with your studying! I have 3 midterms next week. Ugh!

Nutellabella- Glad you joined! We will NOT let this forum die out- I'm pretty sure this will be the only thing that keeps me going sometimes, so I'm in for the long haul!  Definitely check in as often as you can, and I will do the same!  I think that will certainly help make this process easier.

Carly- Welcome to the group! Your 31 day challenge sounds like a great idea! I should try something like that.  Good luck sticking with it :)

Good luck girls!!

-Steph

Good morning everybuggy!!!! (it's 9:50 am here in japan) and I'm just now getting to work..again.

Last night my workout was just what you'd expect from a first day workout, hard as heck and I'm sore in many many places today. A good sore though cuz now I feel more than ready to go again today after I get off watch. Last night it was 2 am when I got off work and starting out a bit slow on the treadmill I felt bolder as I got on it and increased the incline to 10 and the speed up to 2.5 moving the speed every 5 min 1 notch. Got up to a 2.9 then decreased the incline to 3.0 with a speed of 3.3. Tonight I'm going to get on the rowing machine..work out the back....and then back on the treadmill for some jogging..YIKES!! Time for me to get to work but I'll post some more in a few hours.

How's everyone else doing workout-wise?

Carly..welcome aboard!!

~Autumn~

Good morning Autumn! Funny... it's 9:40pm right now for me and I'm saying good morning.  Anyway, WAY TO GO!! Your first day getting back into the game sounds like a wonderful success! I'm glad you got your confidence on the treadmill- sounds like you worked it pretty well :)  Did I interpret right that you headed to the gym at 2 am??!?!

I just had my first (of many) days back at the gym, so I know exactly how you're feeling!  I did the stairmaster for 20 minutes and upped the level in the last 5 minutes and then again for the last 30 seconds.  It killed but felt great to be getting back into it!  I forgot how great it felt to just get done a good workout!  I think I'm going to go at 6:45 tomorrow morning so I can get my workout in before my 9:30 class.

Hopefully I'll be able to get myself out of bed!..

-Steph

Hey Steph..no worries if you don't make it out of bed in the morning. Just go after class instead :D I just logged all my food for last night when I had to work and today and boy do my first 3 days look like a yo-yo! Low the first day, super high the second..kinda low today. *whew* this is harder than I thought it would be! Working 8 on 8 off some days I guess I tend to hit more meals than others..bummer for me.

On a good note I weighed myself today and I'm down 1 lb. I told myself I'd only weigh in once a week but I couldn't help it when all the guys used the scale I just had to get on too. Talk about peer pressure! lol..they're good sports about it though. Think I'll be waiting more than 2 days between weigh-ins from now on so I don't get discouraged.

Leronia..Carly...Nuttellabella?? where ya'll at?!? Hope everyone is sticking to their commitments whether it be diet/exercise or both. Chime in soon!

~Autumn~

Hi Autumn

I was reading through your comments, and I was in the Navy for 5 years, I am actually hoping to lose everything I gained when I got out of the Navy, and try to join the RN Corp. What do you do in the Navy?

I have been sticking to my diet and going to the gym however it would be easier if I had a little more support at home, but I am pushing through it, I do not like to say diet because people say diets don't work so I am trying to get use to saying life style change instead.  :)

I'm here :) reading through comments and getting to know you all .... some days I can't really get on here, so I might miss some in between, but I will get here :)

I have been on here for a while and I did really great for a bit and then the excuses hit. I think I need to take it more slowly this time to get out of the all or nothing mentality. I do enjoy working out- when I am in the groove :) and love fruits and veggies- but for some reason I like to punnish myself by eating crud... actually, the stuff that I eat isn't so bad... it is the moderation thing.

I just started going back to school for my masters and am working, so I'm really trying to find a balance and have to admit that I am struggling a little.

Carly- I like the idea of challenges... maybe we should get a little weekly one going or something with this group? I work well when others challenge me :)

Steph- do you like swimming or biking? Maybe those can give you a break while your foot fixes itself :) My struggle came after college when I got a desk job- ick cubical butt! I have never been a runner, but had fun doing some 10Ks in the past- the problem is that I don't keep up in between so every year it is like starting over again... not this year- I hope :)

Autumn- I love the Biggest Loser!! Your schedule seems pretty tough to keep consistancy, but you can do it :) And great job on the 1 lbs down!

Leronia- gosh, I guess I can't complain about being busy :) I find that I do better with everything when I have a scheduled work out, even though it takes time out of the day- I just get more done... I am with you there on the gym being a stress buster... its just making sure that I schedule it :)

My goal for next week is to write out goals-lol, but true

woohoo!! everyone's doing so great!!

Carly ~ I've been in the Navy for 9 years now as a Fire Controlman...for those of you that haven't been in the Navy I shoot missiles..not fight fires. I'm a Tomahawk Techinicion, have been for the past 3 years which is the most powerful missile we have. It's an awesome job and I really love it. The people are awful but with my friends let me gripe to them when it gets too bad and it makes my day's easier to deal with. Hard to believe that I've gained 10 lbs for every 3 years in but I'm GOING to change all that in these next 4-6 months.

Nuttellabella ~ I hear ya on the excuses. I've done all that before and I'm so very tired of doing that to myself. No one else to blame but me. I started out slow on the treadmill but have every intention of getting back down to the gym after this watch at 10 am to keep on truckin'. The Biggest Loser is my inspiration and I love the tips from Bob and Jillian..not the cheesy *hold up extra sugar free gum and give a commercial* tips but the ones where they show you exercises to do at home or during commercial breaks. I have to watch everything on Itunes so I don't get commercial breaks so I just sit on the couch and watch em while snuggled under my blankets. :D I know...we're supposed to be up and moving not sitting on our butts watching tv. Once I get back inport I'm going to implement that strategy into my daily routine.

Steph ~ how'd classes go? did you get to the gym like you wanted? you can do it!!

As for my goal for next week...writing out goals sounds like a good plan. Think I'll do that this weekend though since I'll have sat/sun off before getting back into the 8 on 8 off routine. Keep moving forward ladies! Don't worry about the past because we can't fix it anyways.

~Autumn~

Hey everyone! Great to hear from you guys again!!  Welp, as I guessed, sleep won over the gym at 6:30 this morning- no surprise hah. I was planning on going tonight but I just had an appointment with my foot doctor for my pathetic foot problem that I've been nursing since September.  He checked it out and decided that the best path at this point was cortisone shots! I was terrified and wanted to cry, but I looked away, he numbed my foot, did the shots, and I didn't even feel it! It's great because now, with no more pain in my foot, I should be able to get back into running in a few days!!  And now, with such a wonderful motivation group of you guys, I should be able to stick to a good, regular routine now :)

Autumn- Congrats on dropping 1 lb!! I know what you mean with the weighing in- sometimes I feel like I want to weigh in after every meal haha, but I'm going to try to keep it to once a week too. I'll have to start watching the Biggest Loser- seems to be a big hit.  I've seen it occassionally but never paid attention enough for the tips.  When is it on? That's great too that you get the weekend off- that should be a nice break.  Sorry that the people you're with are no fun, but if you ever need to vent, we're here for ya!

Carly- Great job on sticking to your diet and workout plan!  So far so good :)  And yes, I'm not a fan of the diet word, so I like to just see it as being healthier and smarter about what I eat, and when I work out!

Nutellabella- I get you with the excuses too- they're always so easy to come up with and justify to yourself, but now you'll have to answer to us! hah. I'm sure that taking it slowly, and setting tiny incremental goals, will be a lot easier to adjust to too. Good for you for going back for your masters- what's it in?  I guess I kinda like biking and swimming, but for some reason I don't usually feel up to them... but hopefully with this new cortisone shot in my foot, I'll be good to go again in no time! If not, I'll definitely take your advice, because there will be NO excuses this time around! Good plan on the goals list too- I'm definitely going to do that too if I remember.

-Steph

Yay! No more foot pain, you will be good as new and running in no time :) Keep the positive attitude and you will get where you want to be!

hey everybody was wondering if there was room for 1 more from londo, lol, i joine this site yesterday and am loving hearing how everyone is doing an would love to be involved x

emmalou- only if you host us in london Cool lol... welcome- tell us more about you!

Steph- I hope that shot works for you- nothing like having foot pain to set you back! I totally get that it is hard to switch workouts when you like one and are just eh on the others.

I am working on a masters in counseling- so far it is fun, work, but fun...

i totally wish i could be trained on the Biggest Loser... some of the workouts seem tough!  I have an old body bugg (from previous seasons)... so my goal is to really really use it :)
