Motivation deep underground.

Quote  |  Reply

I, for some reason, cannot push myself to go downstairs and get on the treadmill. No one is ever down there (I live in an apartment building of 60 apartments not all occupied) and I know I need to be active.

Hell it is gorgeous outside today and I can't pull myself to go outside and even enjoy the sun.

I want someone else to join me, however there is no one.

Please tell me how some of you do things alone? How do you motivate yourself to get off your butt and just do it? I'm so angry at myself.

One way i get myself motivated to workout and get moving is by listening to music, i find that when i listen to loud music with a good beat such as rock or atlernative or some rap/hip hop it makes running a lot easier!

Also, depending on where you live, going hiking is always a good way to get out! Go somewhere pretty where you can enjoy being outside.  Also, you could try walking to the supermarket and such because if you walk there, you have to walk back.

I'm sure you can do it :) Good luck!

Lolz!  I do the "walk to the supermarket" thing.  I have to have a destination on my walks - even if it's a fake destination.  Like, I'll walk to this really lame mall that has about 5 stores.  I don't want anything, but it give me a goal.  I'll even go to the park.

Does the treadmill have a book-holder?  Or a TV?  Just plan on walking a little on it, then maybe once you get your energy up by walking, then you'll do some more intense work!  Get an audio book and only listen to it when you're on the treadmill, or have a REALLY good smoothie that you only drink after working out.

This is sad, but my biggest motivator to go to the gym last year was the fact that I didn't own a scale!  So I HAD to go in order to weigh in.  And I didn't want to be a bum who just went to the gym to weigh herself, because how weird/sad is that?!  So I'd work out lol!  Plus your weight goes down a  little after a workout, so that always made me feel good!  (it's all the sweat lol)

Ha ha - I am the exact same way, and I keep telling myself that I am NOT the only one.  So, start by telling yourself that.  There are many of us who simply cannot exercise without someone else meeting us to go together.  But, if you're having trouble finding someone, I'd definitely do the destination thing, like someone else mentioned.  Make one of your meals a mocha and head for Starbucks.  Their grande nonfat (no whip) mocha is only 223 calories and gets a B+.  :)  I bike there, which gets me about 8 miles round trip.  Just an idea.  Good luck!

The fake destination is a great tactic, I use it all the time. There is always _something_ in the house that is running out, and there is always one supermarket farther away that you can get it.

If I know I am going to be particularly sedentary during one period of time, I grocery shop for different items one by one. Today I will get milk, tomorrow I buy fresh fruit, next day yogurt etc. (even though I could do it all at once). And I will buy them all at the supermarket (or market) which is half an hour away from my home by bike, even though there are at least 10 others closer than that.

Ha,

I'm at the same point. I've planned to exercise this week...heck since summer started and I've  only done a couple of days. The motivation is difficult. It really has to become a part of your lifestyle, and  I guess I'm not there. I was suppose to get up and go run this morning, and I chose to sleep. I think I'll get a workout in today, but just in case, I'm going to eat lightly and move around a lot.

If there's anyone in the Los Angeles area who wants to workout, shoot me an email!

I'm pulling for you, you'll find your motivation- as i will find mine. Good Luck.

I suffer from the same problem and my treadmill is right in my room!  I read something kind of funny this morning that may work for me.  When you don't think you can do it - grab your butt!  LOL  It will remind you why you want to exercise :)

This is really funny! I will include thighs as well, lol.

#6, that is a new one to me, that I can't stop laughing over.

What I do is lie to my body.  Say I only have to go out for 10 min, or so, then once I'm out I stay longer and love it.  If I think I have to go for an hr, I make excuses.

also, my Ipod is filled with catchy songs with a fast beat, to help me keep up my pace.  I've been doing this for 30 yrs, and NEVER can go out without music.  Of course back then it was a radio with earplugs, then portable CD.
