no motivation!

Quote  |  Reply

hey all! i desperately want to lose about 50lbs (i'm 5'10" and 225, wanted to get down to about 175)... but up til this moment i've had no motivation whatsoever. just body-hating moments. i'm hoping that with someone/something other than myself helping me track my progress it might get a little easier. not to mention i now have an added incentive- i just got engaged. :D and every girl dreams of being gorgeous on her wedding day, no? lol

my goal is to lose weight in a healthy way, but as quickly as i can without sabotaging myself. i'm not even sure where to start... the extent of my activity is tons of swimming and housecleaning (i live with my sister and her FIVE kids so that's no small task lol)... but i know if i try to "work out" i'll get super bored. does anyone have any good suggestions for excercise i won't get bored with easily?

go to youtube and type in "Jane Fond workout". then find Jane Fonda Workout Beginners 1-there are 5 videos for beginners and 6 for advanced, but start with beginners. jane fonda makes excercising so much fun. eveyone is smiling and happy and jumping around and music is playing and the outfits are AWESOME. the excercises work EVERY muscle shoulders, neck, arms, waist, abdominals, hip, leg, and buttox. It makes you feel so fit afterwards and i noticed results right away. so far i've lost 11 lbs. with the help of this excercise and i only used beginners. if you don't want to do those excercises go to amazon.com and they sell a bunch of other old Jane Fonda excercise videos.

also whenever you're hungry, try drinking 1-2 glasses of water or a teaspoon of olive oil or a piece of sugarless gum. this curbs hunger.

good luck!

I just have to ask olive oil?  What?  Why do you eat oil?  I never heard of someone using that to curb your appit.  isn't that big cal's?  That is better than food?

PS  I did Jane Fonda for years when she was popular....Jane really will work your whole body and you will learn a lot of great exerc.

Annakayyy...please feel free to join the "April Weight Loss Challenge--Sign Ups Always Welcome"...the "May Challenge" will be posted for sign ups early next week.  This is a one month commitment...you pick your weight loss goal and then post your progress each week.  A little accountability (&sometimes a little extra encouragement) when you need it.

As for the "good suggestions" for exercise, I try to throw something "fun" in each week, like a Zumba Dance Class or a Yoga session at my neighborhood YMCA...yes, I do "standard" exercise 5-6 days a week (rowing, weights, etc.), but I've found activities that feel like "playing" keep me motivated to move!

Good luck to you!

yes. i do use olive oil to curb my appetite and one spoonful is like 10 calories and it makes you feel full. i've probably lost more weight than you seeing that you have such a bad attitude towards things you've never tried!

Not that I think olive oil is bad - it's actually my "fat of choice" when it comes to cooking, but, I'm not sure what spoon you're using.  1 tablespoon of olive oil has about 120 calories.

I'm 5' 7", and I started at 230.  I'm down to 188 and still going.  I have to tell you, if I'd waited to get good and motivated, I'd still be 230!  What works better and more consistantly than motivation is to get a plan, and stick to it until it becomes habit.  Once you get in the habit of making healthy choices for yourself, you get some momentum going, and then even if you have  a stumble, it's easy to get right back up and get back in the swing of it.

Exercise can be anything you like to do.  The swimming rocks.  Swim every day, and there's your exercise.  It doesn't have to be boring, it doesn't have to be an intense kick your butt gym routine.  I'm down to 188, and the mainstay of my exercise is walking.  I also have a cheap mini-trampoline I like to use while watching TV, and I do some hand weights and ankle weights now and again.  It's spring, so I've got bike riding to look forward to as well.  Anything that gets you moving is a good thing.

And to the olive oil advocate, I've lost 42 pounds so far, and I didn't do it by swallowing spoons of oil.  Nor do I wish to try something so unpleasant.  If I'm hungry, I eat, I'm just careful about what I eat.  I find that a nice whole-grain snack curbs my appetite and keeps me going.  I get more than enough fat in my diet without adding more in between meals.

Hey Crazyperson01--  This is a very friendly site and chat groups and I'm sorry if you miss understood my tone in my remark about olive oil, but I just ask truly out of curiosity....I never heard of spoon fulls of olive oil to curb an appit.  The remark about my weight what I have lost is very inappropriate....please remember we are all just trying to help each other.

Yeah, but crazyperson said teaspoon - so 1 tsp. is 40 cals (more than 10, but the difference isn't enough to worry about it if you only do it once a day).  That said, it seems to me it'd be a better hunger killer to shake up the teaspoon of olive oil with some vinegar and drizzle that over spinach or lettuce.  That way you get some bulk as well as the hunger-sating properties of the oil.

you must shop at an unhealthy supermarket. i shop at an all-natural store wher eit's only about 60 calories.

Crazyperson01---Is this a joke.  You are being rude and not very helpful....nothing better to do?  Is anyone feeling like I am?  Please keep it clean.

5327-me? maybe you should stop pulling people against me. you were very rude and i simply responded i have already lef this group because of the anger and humiliation you're causing and lingering on a subject everyone else has forgotten. please stop.

Crazyperson, I shop at whole foods and olive oil has 120 calories a tablespoon,

let it go.

plaidpooka-hey i've lsot 73 pounds and i don't starve myself. but if you seem a bit bored but a bit hungry and don't want to waste 130 calories i take a teaspoon of olive oil which is tasty. i'm trying to give advice to this young lady-not you.

trytoloose-i don't-i shop mostly at a whole grain-type store and it is 40 calories. my brother bought some from the A and P that is 45 calories. stay out of it. y're not even offering the lady who started this chain any advice-you're just criticizing me!

I am trying to help the OP. I think that it's important to understand that olive oil is an excellent source of fat but, if we're trying to watch calories, adding a spoonful, might be more than you think.  Perhaps the confusion is the serving size on the various bottles you are referencing.  1 tablespoon = 14 grams = 120 calories.  All the entries in the CC food logs, the web, and the 4 different bottles in my pantry confirm.  As mentioned in earlier posts, 1 teaspoon will have 40 calories.  If 1 teaspoon of oil curbs your appetite and you include those calories in your counting...then go for it.  I just agree with other posters, drizzle it on a green salad and you'll likely feel more satisfied.

Annakayyy - Good Luck!

thank you. if i'm slightly bored and slighty hungry, ye sit will curb it. salad is an excellent idea. i agree with you good luck to you and annakkkayy.
