Motivation Jeans?
Hi there... I have a pair of FABULOUS jeans that I bought small on purpose... I wanted them to fit when I got closer to my goal... which I should have hit by now... I had vacation set backs. So there they sit, in my drawer.. I tried them on this morning and I can put them on, and zip and button, but they are a little tighter than I am comfortable with... They are the same "size" as the ones I am wearing now, and neither have that stretchy stuff in them... But the motivating jeans I still can't wear... I am starting to feel bad about it! Do you think that motivation jeans are even a good idea?
I don't know if they are a good idea or not... but I have them, too. I put them on once a week and look in the mirror. I get sad that I can't wear them yet, but then I get even more determined to meet my goals for the next week.
All depends on how they make you feel. If they bum you out and you want to give up, they suck. If they make you more determined than ever to fit into them, they rock. I have 2 containers in my closet - with the next size and my goal size clothes in them. These are things I fit into 3 years ago before I gained the weight back. I won't even pull the container out until everything in my current size hangs on me, cuz for me them bum me out if I see them.
Good luck with the jeans!
idk ..i put mine in the closet and forgpot about them till i lost 30 pounds then i remembrered hey i got some size 3s i wonder iof they fit..and they did it was sooo great and rewarding !
Hey Dove2424,
I have a few pairs like that lol. I have only tried one on in two months just so I dont get upset. But that is what helps push me to lose the weight!!! I have to pack my bags here in the next week so everything is going to have to be tried on.... lol kinda scared but excited too. I was just laying in bed thinking when I bought stuff so I know what will fit and what wont lol...
So I think whatever pushed you to lose is something to hold on to and dont feel bad about it.. It will happen as long as you stay on the path your on!
It pushes me too, and I think it really helps!
i Have motivation jeans too hehe, and i can do them up and everything but they're still a little tight on the thighs so a few more pounds to go me thinks till im there! so excited thogh they're mega pretty jeans :)
I have a pair and I hang them on my bedroom door so I'm forced to see them everytime i leave or enter my room. I like them it makes me think twice about going to second helpings or another snack. Plus I can see them when I work out which is another motivation booster.
They are an old pair i used to fit into, but I've gotten so big i couldn't even pull them up my thighs! (that was a big wake up call) but yesterday I was able to get them up my thighs and over my butt! there was no amount of "sucking in" in the world that would have got them zipped, but i did feel some success in the progress i obviously made.
I have a pair of motivation jeans as well, and I was able to get into them and take a pic to post it up on CC. I love these jeans, but they are too tight still. I feel I need to lose more weight to be able to wear them out. So, I'm still working on these jeans. Its not a bad idea, its a good idea. The thing is.. You have to stay focus to get all the way into them the way you want to.
Keep on working on fitting into your jeans, don't give up.

I agree. My mom used to have a motivational dress she hung on her closet door.. it worked wonders for her and made her determined to get in it... but I had a t-shirt and I have sooo much to lose that it's just frustrating to me. So, whatever works for you!
Buying clothes in anticipation of losing weight or to motivate me never worked for me. I jJust felt fat, sorry I spent the money, and so guilty over everything I put in my mouth I think I ate more. Actually trying on old "fat" clothes worked better - showed me how much progress I made and that motivated me to stay on track.
Just jeans?
I have motivation BOXES. I organized my clothes from the last few years that don't fit into boxes and labeled them with goal weights (every 5 lbs for me). I am NOT allowed to untape the box until I reach the goal and have been at that weight for at least 1 week. This way, its like I get a whole new addition to my wardrobe every time I lose 5 lbs AND my closet is not full of clothes that don't fit me anymore. That was just depressing for me. I wore a shirt to work this week that I had not fit into for over a year and everyone thought it was new...I got lots of compliments. Hehe, it motivates me to keep going!
Side note. I really love getting rid of clothes that are too big. Never going back!
I have a pair that I used to fit in (quite a few pairs, but one in particular that i love). I wore them on New Years Eve the night my husband and i realized we should be together (after about 2 years of knowing each other)...This was 2005 (becoming 06 that night). Anyway, I don't fit in them anymore, at all...so my goal is to get to a weight where they are even a little loose on me before this New Years Eve. If I continue to lose about a pound a week, that should happen, but until then, i won't even look at them! Hanging them on the door does sound like a really good idea though, I think having them in the corner of my eye will make me put down the cheez-its. haha.
This is what happened to me:
I had this pair of jeans that I really liked - and they were tight - even last year
But this year I gained another 7 pounds over the summer and I was so sad (and angry) that I couldn't put them on anymore - they're the main thing that finally made me watch what I eat more carefully
And for the first 3 weeks they were pretty much the only thing that kept me going :) I found it extremely difficult to switch from almost 3000 calories a day to around 1500
Now that I fit into those I'm trying to lose enough to fit into another old pair of jeans - which means I have another 10 pounds to go :) I also have some old tops that I really like but that don't fit anymore - so yeah, more reasons for me to lose weight
Great motivation for me :) But maybe you should find something else if this makes you feel bad when you don't reach the goal as quickly as you'd like to
More than half of my wardrobe is motivational! Up until a year ago I was wearing all these cute things. I keep them with my regular clothes, and if I drop a few pounds, I start trying on!
My problem is when I buy clothes, I often buy the size I was, not the size I is! :D
You're probably someone who does better with positive reinforcement, like me. I get a lot more out of tripping over an old pair that had been too small than I do from something staring me in the face that I can't get into. I do rewards by going and trying things on in stores as I get to smaller sizes too.
I have some clothes that I try on regularly to see how close i am to fitting into them...there used to be a lot more of them ;)
In fact pretty much the only thing left in my wardrobe that doesn't fit yet is a pair of skinny jeans from 1990 or so...they are genuine skinny jeans, like leggings but jean, so I will likely never wear them again...but I still like to try and get them on occasionally. The day they fit will be a BIG accomplishment!
I kind of wish I kept more "motivation clothes" (though they;d be hopelessly out of style by now)..I tried to buy some new ones but turns out I am the smallest size at Lane Bryant now, and I won't buy something without at least trying on a larger size in it to make sure it looks ok. So that's a good thing (haha just wanted to brag about being smallest size at LB, major for me since I used to be the largest size there)
I would say it's all in the attitude...it's not a race, they don't have to fit tomorrow or next week or even next month, but it can feel really good to know that you are doing all the right things to get there eventually. And it's exciting to try them on and see them fitting a little better than the last time you tried.
I am not going to lie i have done this with great results. I purchased a pair of shorts 4 years ago. I purchased them online and they were too small the day I got them. in fact they were way to small. So instead of taking them back i just put them in a pile of old clothes. I came across these shorts (still brand new) around February and they still did not fit. So when the summer came I tried them on and they fit!!! Now the damn things are way to big already. So I really wanted to get in those shorts and was SUPER pumped when I did.
I know this is usally a ladies thing but I happend apon a new pair of already purchased shorts and was able to make getting in them by summer my goal. It was awesome!
i have second thought about the skinny jean i bought because it makes me sad that i've gotten so big and i don't know if i'll ever make it. It may be a good idea for you and most who find it helpful in order to achieve their goal.
good luck.
I've been thinking about doing this! I DO NOT waste money... so if I spent money on something I would want to fit into it. I would be disappointed every time I dont fit in it, but after a few minutes I'd be like " you can do it! You will look HOT when you fit into this!" So I think Im going to get a dress or something...something not very forgiving.
I fell in love with this one pair of jeans... they looked so great on the hanger (as a size 9), but when i found a pair that would fit me (size 12) , they just looked odd... the smaller size always looks nicer. So I just bought the size 8 pair, yeah kinda crazy of me. I wanted to wear them so bad, but I could not even put them up past my legs! And after that, something just hit me, I did not want them to be in my closet forever, and so I started to lose weight. After a couple of months I tried them on and they fit! I wore them everywhere. And I got some great compliments. Now I haven't worn them for a while, because I gained some weight back, but they are still in my closet waiting for me. And they are once again my motivation jeans.
I guess it just depends on the person, for me motivation jeans are a great idea...
oh wow! I just went and tried them on, and they fit!!! YES!!! Well... they are still a bit tighter than I would like, but they fit. :D It's soooo worth it.
