Does your motivation wax and wane? Support group to strive for consistency

Quote  |  Reply

There are some great people on here who are determined and once they set their mind to it, they go get it. Sadly, I am not one of them... I get super motivated and then say blah, what is one more bite or I just don't care and then decide to do something about it and the circle continues. I am looking for people who struggle with being consistent so that we can help pull each other through. Perhaps small challenges that start with 3 days and then go longer....? (And for those who have the personality of "I want to do this, so I and nothing can get in my way" I wouldn't mind hearing your thought process :)

I am totally with you on this.  I joined CC in April of last year and kicked butt for like five and half months and something happened to me in October when my motivation just ran out.  I lost a bunch of weight and was in a smaller size, so I saw results, but something just happened.  I don't know what.  But I have been trying so far...this week...and have done well.  My main struggle is the weekend.  I can do well during the week when I am stuck at work and can only eat the food that I bring, but the weekend comes and my family and I like to eat "special" meals.

It hurts that much more when I know that I can lose the weight, but there is some roadblock that is in my way.  Maybe if I do have some smaller term goals, it will get my butt into gear!  I am up for a support group that will (hopefully) keep me accountable!

Hi rstrehle85! Great job though on the 5.5 months and getting to a smaller size!!

A while ago I had lost about 20 lbs in 3 months without really trying- (it was the atmosphere that helped) but then it started creeping back and I stayed at a 10 lbs weight gain for a while and was kinda ok with it, but then I got my sedentary job and here is the rest of the 10 (I too know that I can lose weight).... I got really motivated at the beginning of January lost 2 lbs in a week, got stuck and roadblocked myself.

The weekends are hard for me too- same thing.... can only eat the food I bring during the week, so no problems then..... I do like the idea of a cheat day or at least cheat meal though for sanity sake!

Well, now I don't know where to start....

What about something for Wed- Friday and then when we accomplish that- do a weekend challenge?

How about we set a goal of just maintaining our eating plans (ie, keeping in our calorie targets, eating enough fruits and veggies, etc)?  I am off from work tomorrow so I know this one will be a little bit of a challange.  I'm doing okay today, how about you?  Oh, and an important addition...Keep Positive! :)

Any ideas for the weekend?

I am ok with maintaining eating plans for the week days (good luck on your day off!)

For the weekend- what about making sure one of the days is right on goal like a work week would be and then one of the days a little loose with the promise that one evil item that we would normally have be replaced with something healthy?

I don't know- I am really bad at coming up with stuff Embarassed which is probably why I am stuck......

The weekend plan sounds great...let's start out slow! :)

I don't know about you, but my struggle starts on Friday, so how about we start then?  I usually like a little leeway on Sunday, so I will go with the "loose" idea that day.

I did well today, mostly because I was a bum and didn't feel like going anywhere, so no junk food got in my mouth!  Let's have a great weekend!  It's my first weekend officially "back" so I am dedicated to make it work.

Good luck!

I'm with you - I got down to 133 last year, and then it stopped - and then I made crappy eating choices and now I'm 146 :( And now it wont budge.

I get all - I'm gonna do this - and then eat a chocolate muffin...

rst- my struggle hits the second I walk out of work on Friday... I am not going to go to the gym today, but I will do have tons of errands to run which will keep me busy... Dinner will be homemade and my goal is to stay within 1600 range... Tomorrow I will do healthy most of the day so that I can be a little more loose with family dinner (we are going out to eat) And I will track on Sunday- maybe not strictly, but to give me an idea of how my weekends go and go from there......   Good luck to you too!!

Lozzle- do you want to help us with the baby steps challenge?? I am know exactly where you are coming from- I could have written that last sentence my self! :)

:) that would great!

Today, luckily, has been pretty good. Had lots of healthy food today, and walking in the snow is hard work up hill - bet that burned a few more calories than usual!

My goal for the weekend is to stay in my calorie range - I know how to do this, I did it last year :D pretty well... Just stay within 1,400 if I don't excercise - if I excercise then compensate, have a lil' more food.

Hopefully it'll not be so ice-ridden tomoz and will be much easier to venture outside.

yea! I can use as many people as I can get to push me :)

What are your goals?

for sort of long term I would like to get to 140, maintain for a bit and then re-evaluate...

I was part of a challenge for 5% weight loss which would have been good at a little over 1 lbs a week and did I do it- nope- I lost 2 lbs and then stuck at 148.6 for weeks (that is where I am now)...... my mini goal is 145 by the end of the month. I know, not very much, but I think I have to go slow to prevent severe frustration and me shoving my mouth full of food "because- what is the use?"........

my short term goal is to get back to 140 - at the moment the closest I've got is 142 - but today I was 146. Silly scales.

Longer term goal - get back to 133 and then maintain for a little while, and then 126. See how I feel at 133 though - although that seems a LONG way away!

"although that seems a LONG way away"  :) Exactly why I think I am going to have to do things in baby steps, otherwise it feels like I will never get there!

Totally true!  That's what I think and I think that it's a huge barrier for myself.

Welcome lozzle!  Today has been a little off for me, but I am determined to make it work this weekend.  My goal is to do some yoga and keep in my calorie target (around 1400 w/out exercise, 1500 w/exercise).  I too have a lot of running around to do this weekend, so I hope it will keep me moving, but not towards the refrigerator!

My short-term goal is 130 by 05/10/09 (which is my birthday).  It's a little aggressive and based on how I do, I might have to set that date back a little bit.  Further, I want to lose an extra 15 and reach my goal weight of 115 by the end of the year, which even if I do reach my 130 goal later than planned, I will have plenty of time to reach the 115 goal.

We can do this guys!  Good luck this weekend and I will check in with you all on Monday morning!

Well, I plan today to get some serious burn going (ie. excercise. Actually doing some!)

I like groups like these - gives me motivation to actually do it!

The scale said 145 this morning, an improvment, if I just get moving....

You girls sound a lot like me.  I was pretty big into eating healthy and exercising for almost a year and got down to 136.  The we moved last summer and everything went to crap.  Haha.  I started back on CC a couple of weeks ago at 151.8.  I am down to 148.4 now.  My short term goal is 140 and my long term goal is 130.  I do pretty well staying in calorie during the week but I am pretty lax on the weekends, particularly Saturday, which is my splurge day.  Anyway, I just wanted to say hi since it sounds like we have a lot in common.

heya holly - :D

you sound just like me :D Well done for the loss so far, it's more than me. I saw that I had got up to 142, planned to take action - yesterday I was 146 - it's going the wrong way! haha.

Yeah....  I have been meaning to take action for a while now.  Didn't seem to get around to it until just recently though.  But now I am ALL over it!  The hubby and I just bought a used treamill and I have been using the heck out of that thing.

ohh. i would love my own treadmill! lol. No money, no space. I'll have to wait for the snow to thaw which isn't happening very quickly before I can think about running again. It's the lack of excercise - it doesn't help me much at all!

We were lucky.  We found a used treadmill on craigslist.com and bought it for much cheaper than we could have gotten a new one.  The really great thing about it is that it looks brand new!  I'm not a very good runner yet but between walking and running, I can burn a lot of calories on there.  We're thinking about getting Wii Fit too.

hey rst, lozzle, and holly!

The weekends go by too fast- here we are on monday- boo :(

Did ok this weekend- Sat was supposed to be my "cheat day" but i ended up logging anyways and stayed within my max of 1600 cals.... I actually got to the gym on sunday and hit the treadmill for 30 minutes... didn't count calories, but didn't splurge big time either... this better pay off :)

I know we all say we do well during the week- is there anything we should challenge?

It is so nice to know that there are people out there with the same problem as me!

I'm great during the week, but then the weekend comes and I am spending more time with my bf and my healthy eating habits go out the window.

I'm not really exercising right now, so adding that is my main challenge.  My problem is that they moved my job 65 miles away, so I'm in the car a lot now and have no energy or motivation to work out when I get home.

But the the weather this week is going to be ridiculously nice, so I'm using that as motivation to get my butt outside and walking.
