Music is a powerful thing... It evokes emotions in us good, bad, happy, and sad. We ALL have songs that remind us of people, places, and certain times in our lives. Does anyone have a song that motivates them to get healthy and lose weight? Sometimes I find that music can fill the void that I once thought food would fill. I think this can be a really helpful tool and just wanted to share it!
You are so right! today i've been thinking about that 'void', and how i have to find new things to fill it.
tegan and sara!!!! they are so inspiring as people and it comes right through in their music
Anything upbeat is great for working out, I listen to a lot of hip hop for that. But one of my favorite gym playlists songs is I Run For Life by Melissa Ethridge.
Tisk Tisk Tisk...
Well, my soundtrack to the gym mostly consists of Joy Division. For some reason, that dark gloomy sound gets me more concentrated into the workouts, and I get less distractions as well. Iono, Im weird like that.
Ok, I really don't belong on this post because I am OLD!! So old that at first I thought Tegan and Sara were other posters and I was looking for their posts... DUH But this caught my eye because if I have music that motivates me I will workout so much harder and longer than if I don't. For me it has to be upbeat and fun.
So, at the risk of embarrassing myself beyong belief I still have "MMBOP" on my workout playlist, along with "Two Princes" and "The Way" I also love latin music and am currently exploring reggeton options for a new playlist. First song to be added will be "Noche de Entierro" but I'm hoping to find some "clean" reggeton as I am not interested in the misogenistic crap I sometimes hear. Any suggestions?
And brokenbones, I also have "Going to a Town" by Rufus Wainwright which is kind of a downer too but for some reason it gets me going, I think it does help me focus and maybe because I love his voice and the message in the song... who knows.
Ok, so there you go, you may commence the eye rolling and the making of the fun!!! :) but be kind!
WALKING MOTIVATION
"These boots are meant for walking"
For me, one of the songs I have always found motivating is "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister. That is different from my workout music, where I like to listen to fast techno, disco, or heavy metal. My elliptical workout has been done lately to the soundtrack from "A Night At The Roxbury". Goofy, yes, but the beat keeps me going.
"You forgot to mention that Tegan and Sara are extremely hot, too.
Tisk Tisk Tisk..." Oh yes. they are extremely hot, too. And I'm seeing them in October heeeeelllll yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh
for running purposes, outkast's aquemini cd is pretty awesome, in my opinion. and daft punk has awesome beats to run to, too :)
p.s. twisted sister is awesome :D
edit: so i just re-read what i posted - i need a different adjective yes? lol
lots and lots of trance music!!!
I don't usually listen to it at all!!! I'm a rock girl myself... but when I'm working out all that electronic **** really gets me in the mood!! theres beat too thats good for running.
Oh B.O.Y.! Just the thread that I need!!
Even though I'm not a fan...The following Beyonce songs (even if i sing the lyrics in my head) make me work EXTRA hard: Get Me Bodied, Survivor, Hollywood, Flaws and All
T.I.: Motivation
OutKast: Hey Ya, The Way you move
Kanye West: Stronger, Champion, Thru the Wire
Lil Wayne: Threepeat, Mr. Carter, Go DJ, A Milli
System of a Down: Violent Pornography
Panic at the Disco: I write sins not Tragedies
Aerosmith: Walk this way, Jaded
Plenty more, but those are my main ones!
