Movie disappointments
Granted I avoid musicals but it sounded indie creative/ ambitious, had very high netflix ratings and incorporated remakes of beatles songs so I optimistically put my mucisal prejudices behind me (or so I thought).
Ugh. I tried with every liberal, hippie loving bone in my body (and most of them are), but stop singing already and can we have some decent dialogue? Im sure its just lost on me and perhaps I resent it for making me feel old and conservative, but put the music to the background and add some depth - I couldve loved this. My last shot at a musical - my fault for taking the plunge. I admit singing performances were good (the sad "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was great LINK) but I wanted a movie to go along with them.
Any other high hopes for a movie come crashing down for you?

I did want to see Across the Universe, but I dislike muscials. I actually never remember it being in theaters. I might avoid it now... I really only liked Chicago out of all the muscials I've seen.
And then.. we finally saw the movie.
I walked out after suffering through the first hour (which seemed like three) and cussed out the attendant in the lobby for lying, telling me Happy Feet was such an amasing movie, I had to see it right away, he couldn't believe I'd gone so long without seeing it, blah blah blah. I really laid it thick on him.
Stupid movie sucked.
Rottentomatoes.com gives Universe a 53% rating - had I known this and expected much singing video, little movie, I might have fared somewhat better. If you would like to rewatch "Hair", you might enjoy it allowing that this isnt a movie with a soundtrack written for it but a soundtrack of Beatle remakes with performances loosely and literally tying them together (just not very well).
A kids movie! Little kids, tons and tons of little kids, watching this movie where penguins sing about wanting sex and that if you drop your kid it'll be deformed and unexcepted by society. And the only way to be accepted by society, save the one or two penguins that see you for your personality, is to save all of their loser asses.
So funny we all agree about Happy Feet! I was falling asleep towards the end but forced myself to watch it all the way through. It was horrible!
Juno on the other hand is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
I liked "I am Legend"....it was awesome and thought-provoking..and even spiritual.
I did not like "Sweeney Todd".....I was not prepared for the gore. Even when I covered my eyes I could HEAR the gurgling and blood during the relentless throat-cutting scenes. I was nauseous afterwards. Guess I am getting old. Bleah!
One of the reasons I really liked Poltergeist when it came up was scary, no gore (minus the photographer pulling at his face in the mirror scene).
I normally am pleased with indie pics but several with good buzz have disappointed me: Tadpole, City Of God, Igby Goes Down, Maria Full Of Grace, Rabbit Proof Fence, TsoTsi.

You weren't expecting a movie by Tim Burton about a man who cuts peoples throats to be gory did you? Reality check on aisle nine!!
It's still a great musical, although Depp and co. bring a different flavor to it. If you want to see the musical in it's original form rent the Angela Lansbury version

I loved Sweeney Todd & I Am Legend!
I really disliked 'In The Name of the King' *gag* it was so bad.
I was really looking forward to "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" because of the first movie, and the fabulous performance by Cate Blanchette. However, I watched it last night, and found it sorely lacking.....something. Don't get me wrong, the acting was still good, Clive Owen was just pure sexy, but the story and screenplay just didn't have the style and drama the first one did.
Worth the rental, glad I didn't spend theater prices on it...

I was so excited to see Happy Feet. Oh my goodness, I was spoiled rotten with Happy Feet toys before I got to see it. I have a stuffed penguin, a vibrating keychain one, a plastic keychain one, a magic towel, stickers, cups, dishes, any kind of Happy Feet toy Alex would buy me, I wanted and have.
And then.. we finally saw the movie.

Oh, that makes me so sad! Happy feet is seriously like my favorite movie! I can't STAND long movies. 1.5 hours is about my cutoff. I get soo bored if a movie is longer than that, regardless of how good it is. And Happy Feet is like, an hour and 40 minutes, at most? Anyway, that, and I looooooove penguins, and I love musicals, and I love dancing... all in all, pretty much my favorite movie.
I am sad you didn't like it. :(
i saw that juno was nominated for best movie of the year so i figured id watch it.
i mean, it wasnt TERRIBLE, but it wasnt so great...=(
o &pans labyrinth. it was pretty good... i was just expecting something totally different.
