Movie Snacks!
I'm seeing Harry Potter tomorrow night with the family, and naturally I am smuggling in snacks.
Does anyone have any ideas for something no more than 300 calories, small and portable (no refrigeration), and could last me throughout the duration of the movie (2 1/2 hours)?
apples?
There`s a bit of a contradiction in your requirements (small size vs. long lasting). I would go for candies or lollipops, you could have like 10 real sugar ones or even more if you go for the artificially sweetened. Licking one of those takes a long time, and you could have many different flavour, drink lots of water and take breaks in between, to allow your taste buds to 'reset'.

I don't think that's a contradiction at all. If something is small and you eat it one piece at a time, it could probably last awhile. I was thinking suckers or jolly ranchers, but I also like some crunch. lol I wish I could smuggle in popcorn, but my purse isn't big enough!
My friend smuggled in Taco bell a couple times, but then her purse is like the size of a tote. lmao
A cup of your favorite cereal. One cup generally has 100 calories, so you could have one serving or three.
Stop at a gas station or a walgreens/cvs on the way. Choose candy in bags, not bars. A regular sized pack of mnm's has 250 calories, reeses pieces has 220, etc. I eat these one piece at a time, and they last quite a while!
I do like the cereal idea. I could mix in some dried fruit with my fiber one cereal, depending how much cereal I use I could make a "trail mix" for 160-220 calories. And then maybe a few jolly ranchers to suck on.
Sliced Turkey or Chicken Breast
Sushi Packs
Nori Sheets
Sugar-Free Gum
Cherry Tomatoes
Bell Pepper Slices
Hard Boiled Egg & Whites
Cabbage

Those are all nice snacks, but umm... not exactly portable and movie theatre friendly! lol
If you like M&M's, you could try those mini-M&Ms to last you longer xD
And if you like the crunch, some nuts with your cereal as well? Or roast some beans ahead of time, and bring those in another baggy.
pop some plain popcorn at home.

I totally would, but I have no place to stuff it. My purse isn't big enough, and somehow I gotta find room to stuff in a water. LOL No way in heck I'm spending $3.50 for a bottle.
I think I'm gonna go with the cereal idea. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
My solution: GET A BIGGER BAG!
Hah! Seriously, don't quite know the size of the bag you are going to use. The hard candy is a pretty good idea, as is the cereal/trail mix. Pretzels, maybe? Carrot sticks? A small box of "real" candy?
Honestly, Harry Potter is probably exciting enough you don't need much of a snack. Have fun!

That's kinda pointless just for going to the movies. lol I feel like my purse is already too bulky, but I need the room for the womanly essentials (aka hairbrush, make up, tissue, moisturizer, wallet, phone - big ugly bulky blackberry, etc..)
Not to mention my stupid asthma medication and eyedrops. Whew! *falls over*
For crunch, you could go for those quaker rice snacks - they come in popcorn flavor, caramel corn flavor, apples & cinnamon... they are crunchy and much less bulky than a bag of popped corn. Each 7 crackers are 60 calories, and i believe there's something like 7 servings per bag . They also have the mini delights, that are 90 calorie packs..
I went and saw Harry Potter at 9am Wednesday am and I too smuggled in snacks. I took a cup of banana nut cheerios and a huge bottle of water, I did eat the cereal, but was so engrossed in the movie, only drank 1/2 the water.
Have a good time, it was AWESOME!!
A 6-inch Veggie Delite sub from Subway? (or make your own?)
I smuggle those badboys in all the time >: D
When I went to the Harry Potter premiere, I snuck in a bag of 100 calorie popcorn, and one piece of dark chocolate (which I took bites off, then let it melt in my mouth). The popcorn won't last the whole movie, but it is filling. Plus, you really don't need anything else to focus on except this movie! Trust me, you'll be engrossed in the movie.
I don't know why people insist on snacking during a movie, I never eat when I watch a movie, tv, presentation...etc.
I find it rude... I can't stand the sound of people crunching and slurping away on their junk while I am trying to pay attention to the show.
Who the **** ever thought nachos and popcorn (aka the loudest and most OBNOXIOUS food ever) were a good idea to bring into the theather? The vain on my head is throbbing thinking about someone crunching on an APPLE in the theather!!!
All those movie foods are so bad for you too, and in those 2-3 hours that you are sitting there watching the movie you arnt going to be burning any of those calories off
One of the best diet tips out there is to NOT EAT WHILE WATCHING TV... the brain doesnt register how much the body is consuming when it is preoccupied by the television
chew gum
sip a low calorie beverage... water, coffee, tea, diet pop (if you must)
you don't NEED to eat during a movie, it's only about 2 hours long... you'll survive without food, and not annoy the crap out of surrounding Harry Potter fans who paid good money to see and HEAR the whole movie
unless your goal is to annoy others.. in that case eat all the crunchy stuff you want, slurp your drink obnoxiously, and heck while your at it text friends and answer calls on your cell phone throughout the movie too....
Jolly Ranchers! All the way ;)
Or small packs of gummy bears. Love those.
Or the cereal like someone else mentioned. Those are my movie snack staples.
This might sound weird, but a tube of those gerber baby food snacks. You can eat the entire thing for 150 calories.
I'd fill a small ziplock bag with some pretzels, a small handful of M&M's, some Jolly Ranchers, and maybe some gummi bears. It shouldn't be much over 300 calories.. :) And before you go to see the movie you can go for a 30 minute walk so you burn extra for the day!

Wow... there's no need to get all hostile about it. If you don't like to eat during a movie, that's fine. A lot of us enjoy it. Most people are more considerate when snacking during a movie. I've never heard anyone slurping their drink really loudly or munching on popcorn so hard that the people 3 rows ahead can hear. What kind of theatre do you go to? LOL If you plan your snacks ahead of time, it's not really "mindless munching". In a sense it is, sure, but you already gave it consideration, portioned it out, and if you don't buy anything extra you can't go overboard.
