Movie Theatre Snack Suggestions?
I am going to the movie today and I don't want to waste all my calories on their snacks. I though about bringing like an apple and peach. But I don't know if that will help me withstand all my friends' holding hot popcorn and melting chocolate. Does anyone have any suggestions of snacks to sneak into a movie theatre? All and any suggestions would be appreciated! thank you!
Reason: Moved from WL to Foods
Just because you are at the movies doesn't mean you have to eat. Get a bottle of water and wait till after the movie to have a decent snack instead.
If you are worried about eating your friends' popcorn and chocolate, bring some nice gum to chew. It will keep your mouth occupied and prevent you from mindlessly sticking popcorn in there.
Don't go hungry, have a healthy meal or snack before you get to the theater.
Drink lots of water.
Visualize your arteries clogging from all the grease in the popcorn (if that is your weakness).
Visualize plastering the candy all over your hips (if that is your weakness).
If you can't enjoy the experience without some food, sneak a 100 calorie portion of your favorite "junk food", log it, and move on. But really, I agree with downdeep that it is best long term to separate "entertainment" from "eating".
I believe there is already a forum post about this from last week, so you should be able to find a whole mess of suggestions there! Some people had some really great ideas.
I got these Bare Fruit (organic) dried apples and cinnamon the other day. I thought they'd be a great movie snack cause they are sweet and crunchy, and they were like 150 cals for the whole bag, if I remember right.
when I go to the movies, I make air popped pop corn :D and take it with me inside my biggest purse.
:D
If you don't want to bring your own. Things like dots and licorice take longer to eat and are not as a high calorie as other treats.
argh..movie theaters..too many yummy snacks there...
Just buy a large diet soda with plenty of ice, should be filling enough. I usually get that and don't feel the need to snack unless I'm starving.
take cucumber and 2 tbsp of peanut butter. dip and munch !
To be honest, I have never been big on "movie food". When I went and seen Up last month, I brought a baggy with a serving of dry Peanut Butter Puffins cereal and a banana raisin granola bar. You may want to conisder some type of dry cereal or granola/energy bar aswell. If not, you could try these other snacks:
- Air-popped popcorn prepared prior at home (A standard three-cup serving of air-popped popcorn contains just 93 calories and less than 1.3g of fat)
- Trail mix - nuts, dried fruit, dry cereal and if you want a small amount of M&Ms, chocolate chips or hard preztels, etc.
- Whole grain crackers
- Container of fruit and/or raw veggies (baby carrots, carrot sticks, cucumber, etc.)
It's easy to enjoy a good movie with some food. Choosing something more healthy will make you feel enjoy your movie while feeling good, too. The possibilities of healthy choices are endless and most are just as good (if not better), than the standard "movie foods".
The local movie theater that we go to has frozen fat free yogurt (Yogen Fruz), and you can get it with frozen fruit in it as well. I suspect it has more sugar in it than I'd really like, but it's still under 200 calories for a serving, and it gives me something to munch on till the movie starts.

Junior mints are a little better than some of the options. Half of their big box is 170 cals. If possible, give away at least half the box to friends before you start to eat them. What I hate is that I've usually eaten all my goodies before the movie starts-stupid previews!
