i would always smuggle in a diet coke in my purse, and if any of my friends asked why i wasn't getting anything at the movie-food area, i'd tell them i didn't want to pay such overly inflated prices.

you could also bring a kiddie-sized bag of m&ms, they're like 80 cal or something like that

my movie pack:

1 bottle of water or can of diet soda
1 apple, banana, or plum
1 small baggie of crisp blueberries
1 small homemade "mixed" baggie of pretzel sticks, goldfish crackers and/or light pringles

Works every time for me, and usually don't even eat it all! I do get weird looks sitting there peeling my banana during the previews, but who cares!

I always pack baggies of sweet cereal.  Like for instance, I would never eat Fruit Loops for breakfast, but use it for snacks.  It's sweet, but also fortified.  So I feel better knowing I'm getting some nutritional value.  I've also packed Kix and that LesserEvil Kettle Corn.  Have Fun!!

if you like candy, peppermint patties are low cal and low fat. i think one regular size one is 140 cal. junior mints aren't bad, around 170-200 for a box. but i like to take kashi go lean crunchy bars, chocolate almond. best "granola" or snack bar out there imo.

i like the idea of taking baggies of cereal or baggies of mixed up pretzels, goldfish crackers and pringles.

I love eating snacks and munchies and candy at the movies, too. It's just something we did as kids...2 boxes of candy, a large popcorn, and Coke...heaven!

However, I can't do that any more. So, I take large purse (or tuck into my coat pockets) a diet drink. Then, I try to wait until the movie actually starts to drink it. If I "have" to have a sweet snack, I get a SMALL bag of M&M peanuts or Raisinets...at least I'm getting something besides sugar! If I can share it with someone else, I'll get popcorn, too.

I like the ideas others have given...and will try them out. I don't think I'd appreciate someone eating an apple, though...too much crunching!

The other thing you can do is to decide to have nothing. Once in a while, just decide you're going to see the movie, not eat at a movie you see. You really can break the connection; though, it can be hard. However, once you make it a habit to eat out afterwards or beforehand, it becomes more "natural."

I always smuggle in my snacks, have to have "crunchy/salty" = popcorn (bring my own), than of course something "sweet"= m&m's, a couple pieces of licorice or some other snack size goodie.  Of course, than I purchase a large diet coke . . probably more to assuage the guilt I feel about breaking the rules by smuggling in my own snacks!  I love the cereal idea, not sure why I hadn't thought of that one myself since I snack on cereal all the time at home.  You could also bring the small crystal light packets and add one to a water if you like something sweet to drink that isn't a soda.

You can always take a blowpop (25 cals) and chew the gum inside afterwards to satisfy the need to chew and something sweet.

buy one of those humongous waters so you always have something to put in your mouth so you don't feel tempted to go buy something to eat.  thats what i do.  plus you can never have enough water! only problem is you are gonna have to piss really bad when the movie is over. lol.
