movies-HELP!
the guy i've been dating are going to his house to watch a movie tonight---but i didnt realize he had put the ball in my court as to which movie we're watching! so i need some reccommendations!
movies we both love:
--paris j'taime
--amelie
--before sunset
--thank you for smoking
--waking life
i know its really random, but i need something along these lines!
anyone have any ideas?i was thinking maybe the movie magnolia, but i havent seen it, so i dont know what to expect.
(p.s. if you havent already seen those movies i listed, GO RENT THEM!)
Shaun of the Dead! I know- it sounds a little off kilter, but it's really funny and there's a bit of romance there too. It's an ultimate date pleaser if you don't want him to nod off watching My Best Friend's Wedding or Ever After!
Also, Thank You for Smoking IS hilarous but those sex scenes are going to be awkward if you just started seeing this guy...in my humble opinion;)
I saw Magnolia when it first came out - it was ok, but a little too much for my taste. If you like Amelie, it is worthwhile to check out Jean-Pierre Jeunet's earlier films, such as Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children. Both are a bit darker and stranger than Amelie, but are very good. The Big Lebowski is surreal, hilarious, and just about my favorite movie ever, so if you haven't seen it, it could also be a good choice too. Also, Pecker, directed by John Waters is a lot of fun and good for a date.
I love Magnolia! It's rather long though, not sure if you'd want to sit through it all. I really liked Delicatessen too.
What about:
Little Miss Sunshine
The Royal Tenenbaums
American Beauty
Ghost World
The Shawshank Redemption
Donnie Darko
Those are all pretty upbeat movies that I think you'll enjoy. I've got plenty of powerful downers if you'd rather not watch something happy.
Run Lola Run?
Some really good suggestions above, I would add...
ma vie en rose
ps I love you
a scanner darkly
lost in translation
monsters ball
If you like Amelie, you will love love loooove Happenstance. It also stars Audrey Tatou. Fantastic film.
The Science of Sleep!!!! you will LOVE it. oh im going to watch it tomorrow.
and i second lost in translation.
so what did you end up watching? ... just curious
thanks so much for all your suggestions guys i didnt get a chance to log in since then. we ended up watching city of god...it was awesome! i love lost in translation and science of sleep :] you guys are the best, i have tons of movies to add to my list now!
AERO!!!!
There's a movie that I obsolutely love and I think you would as well because our tastes in movies are very similar. Try to get "2 in Paris" with Julie Delpy. Laugh out loud funny...or for more on the funny side: Eagle vs Shark. Def!
Have you seen "He loves me, he loves me not"? It's a french film with the lady from Amelie. It's so awesome! I watched it in my french class in high school and I've been wanting to watch it again ever since :]
