movies tonight.........
Ok I need your help.
I'm going to the movies tonight with some friends to watch the new Harry Potter movie. lol thats not the problem :o) The problem is I have conditioned myself over the years that when I go to the movies I have to eat popcorn and sweets. Now I think I would be asking to much of myself the first time round to go cold turkey so I need your sugestions on movie snacks please.

Bring some red licorice with you. I could be wrong, but I think last time I checked it was fairly low in fat/calories. It will be filling too.
Also, if you have a big purse, you could buy some low-fat popcorn, pop it yourself at home before the movie, and then sneak it in the theatre inside your purse. It won't be hot, but it will give you something to munch on that you won't feel guilty about!
P.S. I'm seeing it tonight too! On IMAX and in 3D! Hopefully I'll be so captivated I won't think about food at all!

If you really need sweets, find some low-calorie candies that you can suck on. Make yourself suck on them (don't chew them early) because then they'll last longer. Then you'll have your popcorn (salty) and your sweets!
pop a bag of smart pop and bring a big purse when they lights dim, whip it out. the popcorn.
I'm guilty of bringing my own low-cal popcorn EVERY time !! Add a couple pieces of dark chocolate with it and your good !
Hi kittensmom!
I totally tried to go see Harry Potter last night.. but it was way too packed so we saw Live Free or Die Hard instead (which was awesome!) at any rate, I popped two bags of 100 calorie smart pop for my boyfriend and I, and brought them in my oversized bag :) I even brought my own salt shaker! Haha..

My favorite, when I go to the movies, it to go to the Yogen Fruz counter.
They have no sugar, no fat vanilla yogurt with your choice of two frozen fruits ground up and mixed with it. A small has 130 calories, and really isn't that small.
Theater treats are always so expensive, I usually just bring my own anyway, and it's not uncommon to hide something tasty in your purse.
Stash some air popped popcorn (A large bag of the Oil-Popped Theater Popcorn has over 1200 calories and two days worth of trans fats! Avoid!) and a baggie full of cherries, grapes, blueberries or raspberries for sweets :)

I totally totally agree with sneaking healthy snacks into your bag!!
I just had to add something, because I feel for ya - my boyfriend was like you, he associated the movies with a big popcorn and huge Coke. He almost fell over when I informed him those two items pretty much contained all the calories he could consume for the day. :-)
Now, we sneak a few diet Pepsis or flavored seltzer in, a snack bag of trail mix for me and a baggie of flavored pretzels for him (a bit high in sodium, but, like the previous poster pointed out, much lower calorie than that 1200 cal bucket of popcorn).
Also, don't they make those great 100 cal bags of cruchy snacks? I am not much for crackers, but I think they have pre-portioned bags of things like Wheat Thins, Oreo crisps, etc.
Oh, and enjoy the movie!!! I am seeing it on Saturday and CANNOT wait! :-)

Bring an apple. It's the perfect snack to curb your hunger. Crunchy, delicious, good for you!!!! Plus, it will fill you up, for sure.
On days when I don't bring my own food, I sometimes get a kids meal (small quantity of popcorn, small drink and tiny bite of something sweet for five bucks, cheap by concession counter standards). I don't get butter on the popcorn anymore (there really is a fair amount just from the popping) and I make the drink zero-cal (sadly, there's only diet coke at my movie theater, not diet anything else). It's about 500 calories total, but it makes me feel more "normal".
Most times I just bring a container of something I really love, like fresh berries. (I try not to bring anything crunchy, so I don't make noise and get caught). :) I take a few handfuls of a friend's popcorn when offered (someone always offers!) and a few sips of their diet drink and call it good.

That was funny Stephanie14.
And yes, I agree with the others, bring your own popcorn in or if you can't deal share a small bag of popcorn with a friend (only 200 cals for a half bag though staggering amount of fat). Careful of the red Twizzlers though, only 5 of them from the movie sized bag are 150 calories!!!

the mini popcorn bag is a good idea--i might do that!
i was planning on bringing one or two rice cakes -- only 50 cals per rice cake. i love those things...caramel ones....mmmmmm
and yes, i'm also seeing the new Harry Potter movie tonight! we're going to a 7:00 showing, and i'm sooooo excited!

We should just all meet here back tomorrow and discuss how the movie was and what snacks we had while watching it. ha ha!
definitely!
and heaven forbid we have to say something bad about it not following the book....i hate when movies don't follow the books.........

I know what you mean....right now I'm sad to see Sirius go...and for the movie's sake...I love Gary Oldman!
I'm seeing on IMAX in 3D TONIGHT!!!!!

or any of the 100 calorie packs are good. Not too much in them, but take a sweet one like the peanut butter thin, or oreo thins, and then a salty one like Doritos! With a diet pop or water or the packets of crystal lite you add to water, this is only 200 cals. Way better for you than the movie popcorn.
The 100 cal pack of popcorn is a great idea if you are craving popcorn like I would be if I walked into a movie theatre.....Enjoy the movie

i know....me too! i really liked his character.
unfortunately, though, the 5th book is probably my least favorite. it's kind of the one that gets ignored in my mind....

Someone on here mentioned that they brought a baked potato with them to the movies before. It sounds really good. =]
Enjoy the movie!
Enjoy the movie!
Buy a large cold water and drink it throughout the movie...if you wear a jacket and are female, you can usually sneak something in under it...don't worry about crunching noises, they're not going to know the difference between your celery and someone else's popcorn.
Seriously. Low fat popcorn in the purse. Smuggle it in for sure. Movie theatre popcorn = NO bueno. Smart pop = GENIUS.
The licorice idea is a good one, too.
