The reason |'m wondering is because, after you exercise, you burn fat. But if you eat back what you worked off, you just pack it back on, right? 0r does it have something to do with building stronger muscles?
Because even if it does make better muscles, why couldn't your body just use your own fat to use it to aid those exercised muscles, and not extra food? Wouldn't you lose more weight faster and more effectively if you didn't eat back the extra calories burned?

The point of eating back calories burned isn't because of fat, it's because it puts some people under 1200 (for women) and 1500 (for men) Which is dangerous, your body can't function well on less than that, stalling weight loss and harming your body.
I eat 1300 calories, if I burn 300 calories at the gym, that puts me at 1000 net calories, I could go into a starvation mode if I continue this way. I could personally only eat back 200 of those 300 and be fine at 1200. But petite people arn't so lucky.

Hmm. Well |'ve been planning to eat 1,200 today, but | burned about 200 from exercise. Does that mean | should eat 200 calories more?
Yes. There are two equations to use, one to find out deficit, and the other which only includes exercise calories burnt and calories eaten.
If you burn 200 and eat 1200, it is technically like under eating at 1000 calories (except you still get the nutrition of the 1200)
If you plan on exercising that day, you can eat more before you exersise, it doesn't really have to do with "when" you eat back your calories burnt, just that you do it.

Yes, you need to eat 200 cals more. oh...nocturne beat me. 1200 cals is for sedentary.
Sorry XD, I should give everyone the chance to help. <3
First thing you have to notice is that all exercise is not the same. For anerobic type exercise with a purpose of muscle building tests have shown that their is more muscle growth when consumeing a High GI card/Protein source after working out. This is because when you weight lift you lift in small bursts so your muscle uses its own internal storage of carbs(glycogen) as power and never touches fat reserves. This small meal replenishes those stores and helps the muscle recover from the hard workout.
Now the other type of exercise is longer sustained type of exercise where fat stores is the main source of energy. With this type of exercise you really do not want to eat directly after because even after you stop exerciseing your body still continues to burn a little fat untill your body finds a nice equilibrium again.
It really comes down to what your trying to accomplish, Loseing fat and Gaining Muscle are 2 entirely different things and 95% of the time can not happen at the same time.
