Multivitamins..to take or not to take?
So I have been taking a multivitamin for about 6 months now. It doesn't bother me or anything, but I don't like putting something in my body unless it's actually helping me. I think I eat very healthy - 3 pieces of organic fruit a day, 3 organic vegetables a day, 3 servings of dairy, lots of wholegrain and multigrain bread, good protein, etc. I think I get pretty much everything I need in my diet, but I've always been told how great multivitamins are. Should I continue to take it, or is it unnecessary? I'd love to hear your personal experience and also some science to back up your opinion (if you can).
Thanks :) :)
Not that I'm a nutritionist or anything, but I've always thought multivitamins were important because no matter how well we may eat I have a hard time believing we can get all the micronutrients we need through our diet. Obviously it wouldn't kill you to not take a multivitamin, but I think it helps us be a little healthier.
I try to take a multivitamin a couple of times a week, just to kinda boost my nutrition in case I'm not getting something. I don't like to take one every day because there are so many products, especially bread products, that I eat that are already enriched, and I am afraid that the few things that the excess isn't just flushed out (like iron) would have a negative effect. There is a radio doctor, Zorba Pastur (sp?), that has mentioned that he doesn't like taking ANYTHING every day, for whatever that is worth.
i never take multivitamins . why should i ? i eat healthy foods, fruit & veg and i think i get all the vitamins i need the natural way . i just dont see point in taking them . they might be a good idea for those who live on burgers and chips . ha ha ha .
Every doctor I've ever had has told me it's a good idea to take a multivitamin every day. So I do.
I take one every three days. I eat very naturally though.
i started taking one, ive seen improvement in my skin. helps me feel a bit more full too
i take a multi-V i get at the health food store, i also take omegas , trying out Udo's Oil 3-6-9 currently.
girlchild took a nutrition class last semester at UT - Austin (WHICH DOES NOT SUCK!)
and she said that you have to watch the vitamin A and one of the B's - mybe niacin? - because there is usually way too much in them. she told me i'm better off taking them every other day, so i do.
she started taking them and said she could feel a big difference, especially in her energy level.
I take a multi-vitamin, omega 3, and vitamin D. But then, I'm an old Canadian.
