I'd like to start taking a multivitamin to make sure I'm getting all of my vitamins/minerals.  Unfortunately, I've heard that many multivitamins are useless, as they are not properly balanced, and don't offer the proper amounts of vitamins/minerals.  Does anyone have a brand/type of vitamin/supplement(s) they can suggest that is, if not properly balanced, at least closer than most brands?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there!

I also was a bit stumped when it came to choosing a multivitamin, but I found this site to be quite useful.

Hope it helps!

Super Nutrition Simply One (I found it at Whole Foods) is the one Dr. Oz recommends.

I just took a nutrition class, and the general consensus there was that a multivitamin is a good idea - but moderation is key.  Unless specifically directed by a doctor, you shouldn't take a multivitamin that has more than 100% of your RDA of any particular vitamin/mineral.  (Mine is mostly 100% except for a few.)  It is in fact possible to get toxic levels of some of these, even though for the most part your body can get rid of them effectively, but toxic levels are typically 3x-1000x the RDA (depending on the vitamin).  The best way to get your vitamins and minerals is through your food; your body typically absorbs it better that way and the form of the vitamin is a more natural one.  But when you can't get everything from your food - for example, I have a heck of a time getting enough calcium and iron - multivitamins are a good supplement.
