Multivitiams/Supplements

What do you guys take along with daily diet and exercise??

I recently switched to One a Day Weight Smart I guess the EGCG in it is supposed to help give your metabolism an extra little boost...we'll see. So far that do feel like they give me a bit more energy throughout the day.

I take a Kids Multivitamin and eat plenty of vegetables. With Vitamins, especially the fat-soluble vitamins, more vitamin isn't necessarily better. If you take in TOO much, for example, Vitamin E, it stays in your fat and can act, like everything else when taken with sufficient quantity, as a poison.

Thus, I take a Kids Multivitamin in the hopes of getting a small amount of especially the fat-soluble vitamins in case I do not get enough of them in my diet.
Not much at all.  I try and get all my vitamins and such from foods.  I regulate my metabolism as much as I can via healthy eating and exercise.
So I probably shouldn't be taking a multivitamin for adults ??? :\
The dieticians and nutritionists that I have spoken to don't really recommend them unless you have a clear issue with getting some of the nutrients.

For the vast majority of people, if you are eating healthy, you are getting enough vitamins.

In most cases, getting a bit extra is no big deal.  But in some cases, you do not want to go overboard on vitamins.
What bigtwinky said. :)
So, yes, if you're going to pill-pop, flintstones chewables may be just the right amount ;D

Though a healthy diet full of whole foods may preclude your need for pill-popping :)
I am eating as healthy as I can with the time and money I have to spend. I get at least 2 servings of fruits and 2 servings of veggies. I'm get a decent amount of protein but I am trying to up that a bit and definatly get enough carbs. This is what is in the vitamins I'm taking...

I take Wellness Essentials multivitamin I got from my doc, plus I take omega-3, niacin, nonflushable B12, flaxseed oil and cinnamon.  I've noticed since I started taking the vitamins and supplements that my fingernails are actually growing, my hair doesn't tend to fall out as much and yes, I do have more energy.  The vitamins are a bit pricey at $60 a month, but I found some comparable at Puritan's Pride I will start once I finish this box from the doc.  It really has made a difference in my energy level and I am a lot more active since starting them.
hkellick -

if thats the case then good news because I love those flintstones chewables!!! :) ALOT
im a vegetarian.
i dont get enough iron in my diet.
would you say it's a good idea for me to take iron supplements?
You don't eat Spinach?

Yes, if you know you have a deficiency (and vegetarians, for example, can have problems getting enough B12), than please do take a supplement :)

But, if I were you, I'd start eating more Iron-rich foods like Spinach :)
Iron is key for women (less for men).  If you consistently don't get enough iron, you may want to look into one.  But you could try researching ways to increase iron with regular foods.

A nutritionist would be great to advise you on what to do to up the iron.

Being a true vegetarian makes is really much harder to get many of the nutrients our body needs.  Other than iron, fat comes to mind, mainly the animal fat we get from meats (hehe, duh, like we can get animal fats from plants).

Vegetarians should get a healthy eating plan from a professional to ensure that they are on the right track.
i eat spinich whenever its offered to me!!
i love the stuff.
yummy.

i think i will look into buying iron supplement. i think it will do me good.

Cheers HK.

Here are some plant foods high in iron

that sounds great.
i love brocoli, i love watermelon, raisens. =D

(not a fan of guiness though!!)
For those who are active and train hard on a regular basis, I recommend Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men and Opti-Women or NOW Adam and NOW Eve.  For the body builder Animal Pak is probably the best multivitamin/multimineral system out there, but it is very expensive.  Personally I use Opti-Men which is a 3-a-day vitamin.

Regardless of your diet, I wouldn't recommend that people NOT take a good multivitamin/multimineral.

The only other supplement that I highly recommend for EVERYONE to take on a daily basis is a good pure fish oil or EFA.  (essential fatty acid)

Bulk fiber is also a good idea, but isn't necessarily mandatory.

I also supplement with protein powder to help meet my daily protein requirement.
Hey bigtwinky,

I have to take issue with your comment about vegetarian nutrition.

Fruits and vegetables tend to be much more nutrient dense, calorie to calorie, than meat and dairy.

It's folks who eat too much meat, dairy, and processed carbs that need to worry about getting enough nutrients - especially vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients - because the meat, dairy and sugar calories replace more healthy calories from fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds that we veggies eat.

Just felt the need to clarify that.
I just take a womens one a day muliti vitamin.  I haven't seen anything adverse.  I know I don't get all my reccomended vitamins, esspecially calcium.  So I like the multivitamin.
I dieted for 2 months with no vitamins and dropped 28lbs.  Then I picked up a bottle of One-A-Day weight smart.  This past month alone I've dropped 22lbs, nearly as much as both months prior.
I recently re-added Twinlab's Ripped Fuel back to my regimine. It makes a big difference in how my body burns fat storage. I have noticed abdominal improvement with just a week's use! I used it before and loved it. I also take a One a Day Active in the morning and Vitamin C 1000mg.
I had taken the Once-a-day Weight Smart for over a year and finally quite taking them around half a year to a year ago since I have researched on the internet and they are just like other Vitamins besides it has EGCG in it which scientists don't know if it would have the health benifets outside of green tea as it is in green tea so I would not recommend taking them as they never helped me out and just gave me stomach aches all the time.
