I murdered the scale

Quote  |  Reply

SO I am sticking to the calorie intake... even played with it a bit going up and down and the scale is not budging. However my waist size is down a bit, I feel better and the XXL scrub pants are to big... I do not have an explanations for this other than I am converting to muscle... and in the long run I can be lean and mean with a good amount of muscle... but gosh I long to see those numbers lower...

so in an attempt to not get discouraged I have murdered my scale.

Anyone else have this problem

what did you do that made the difference for you

No advice, but I can commiserate!  After about 3-4 weeks now, the scale has budged ONE measly pound!  ONE!  I'm not noticing a huge change in the way my clothes fit yet, but I can run for about 3 times as long as I could to begin with, I have way more energy, and I feel good about my body and myself (most of the time)!!

In sum, I am struggling too, but trying to focus on all the good things I've noticed so far and also to know that at some point, the scale will drop (or my dress size will ;)  )!

I just read an article that indicated that after you have not eaten well or exercised in a long time that it can take 6-8 weeks for your metabolism to get straightened out...I am about four weeks into hard activity and it has been a long time.... I am not going to weigh until the end of another four weeks

If the scale is not budging, then maybe you souldn't depend on it.  It will only bring you down if you work so hard and don't get anything out of it.  Instead why don't you focus on your measurements and how many inches you are loosing? That will make you feel better about yourself.  Try not checking the scale for a full month and only taking your measurements every few weeks.  That way you'll see your success withought feeling the scale drag you down.

My husband is having this problem he's been at this for over two months now w/ no change on the scale. He follows everything he can possible think of to do, but still no budge. He has threatened to start up w/ Atkins next week if he doesn't see some weight loss soon. He eats what he's supposed to and exercises quite faithfully everyday. He probably only has about 30lbs to lose to feel good, but why no movement on the scale? He has seen a difference with inches, which I know is an encouragement to him, but no weight loss in over 2 months!

I read an article that stated it can take up to 8 weeks for your metabolism to revocer from a diet like Atkins... if the inches are coming off murder the scale

I know exactly how you feel... I got rid of my scale last night!  I could feel that I had lost weight and I was sticking to my exercise and calorie goals but the scale didn't show anything so rather than get discouraged i eliminated the source of the problem :)

lets all murder our scales....

death to the scale mine is going by way of hammer I think LOL

As it is a bit costly for me to replace my scale every day, I instead choose to flip it off each morning.  It does give me some measure of satisfaction even though it simply sits there, cooly gazing upward, unmoved.

ahh yes that is true..I am going to keep eating healthy , exercising in creasing intensity and love myself... I am not a number... and maybe that is what I really need to worry about... being healthy and loving myself... you folks at CC are awesome... it has been a journey for me to recover from compulsive eating... and the support and caring words that I have received have been blessings in dark times

I hear ya fyrnymph...

Murder it, if you haven't done so yet. I didn't see any change in the numbers for a long time, then started gym, and the numbers went up... but guess what, trousers were too big and I went down 1 waist size in like a month, with no change in numbers. So I've decided not to weigh myself anymore. Not sure if I'm ready to murder it though (it's one of those digital expensive mean things I bought in a body fat percentage control attack), but I've let it lying there, untouched, for a long time... I know it's very angry, and calling my name every morning, but to avoid temptation (and the subsequent disappointment) I drink a tall glass of water as soon as I get up, so I wouldn't get an accurate number even if I did weigh myself.

Well done in overcoming compulsive eating. I think I flirted a bit with it in the past, and very rarely now the occasional massive binge still freak me out, but they are happening less and less often, and I'm now maintaining my weight.

Good luck to you all, murderers!!!!!!! :):):):)

The reality is that I have not been that good to my body... so it is going to take some time to get things in order... I hit the gym five days a week and initially lost a fast 20 lbs.... but nothing

nothing

nothing..

I am not giving up on me

When I first joined Jazzercise at 175 lbs., I went about 5 x a week, and ate heathfully but didn't track calories or anything.  Early on, I got my body fat % tested by a visiting nurse. It was 31%.

About 4 months later, still doing Jazzercise, I was STILL at 175 lbs, but I was _noticably_ thinner, and my BF had dropped to 25%!

So the number on the scale is well, a number.  There are a lot more complex things going on with our bodies when head towards a healthier lifestyle.

That's because muscle weights more than fat, so if youre exercising while watching what you eat, you might not lose weight. because the weight you lost was fat but you gained weight by muscle building. Good news however ist, musclemass not only weights more than fat cells, it is also smaller. I for example am again at a little plateau but still losing waist size while I am at a comfortable weight already, I still keep up with not eating junk and more healthy stuff like I started to about eight months ago when I was arround 50 lbs heavier. Now it's the second month that I haven't lost much weight(only about 1lbs), nothing to worry though. I only had my body fat measured when I was a teen about 5 years ago, but if I remember right it was something arround 35% and if I should guess now, it might be arround 20% since I don't really have much fatty spots left and my stomach is almost flat :)

So losing weight quick now will only be possible  by losing muscle mass&nb sp;but that's something I won't go for, I can live with weighting arround 155lbs even if it's not a BMI under 24 for me. A friend of mine puts the same weight up to the scale and is a little bit smaller than me but he's really thin, and much into sports... -I wouldn't consider him "slightly overweight" ;)

Hello my name is Staci, and I'm a compulsive weigher Tongue out

I really need to stop obsessing on the scale. Baandito, I think I'm going to try the drinking a huge glass of water when I wake up to deliberately throw it off lol. I don't know if I could go longer than a week though *smirks*
