Muscle aches = hunger?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, simple question really, when I work out, I get muscle aches, as to be expected, however they get more and more sore for about 4 days and can last about a week, during which I seem super hungry (maybe I'm just eating to try and take my mind off the pain?) Anyway, I'v noticed if I do cave and eat extra the pain seems to fade faster. Basically, I'm wondering if I should eat more, stop being such a wuss, or if my mind is just playing foody tricks on me and it's all in my head? Anyone else find they are extra hungry whilst your muscles hurt, and if eating extra does help or not?

I'm 5'10, 20 and aim for around 1700-2000 depending on if it's a workout day or not, I exercise for two hours about 4 times a week, more if I can.

I don't know but I've noticed/wondered the same thing. Hopefully someone knows the answer!

If you're 'super hungry' and you find that eating something helps the pain then you've answered your own question, really.  Check this link which is designed for people under 21 http://www.kidsnutrition.org/bodycomp/bmiz2.h tml  ... enter your stats and read off the calorie requirement for someone who is very active.  Could easily be that you need over 3000 cals when exercising....

I can't belive I would ever burn 3000 cals... But I shall still go stuff my face anyway, thanks! :)

To me muscle pain means that it is damaged and is in the process of rebuilding and therefore needs the building blocks of muscle -- protein in order to rebuild and change.  That's why increase in appetite.  I tend to eat a lot of pure protein when I have muscle soreness instead of carbs etc.
