1 lb. = 1 lb. regardless if it is fat, muscle, cheese, chocolate, or broccoli! One pound will always equal one pound! lol

Sorry I just see this all the time and I thought I would clear that up! The difference is 1 pound of muscle is smaller in size then 1 pound of fat. If that makes sense??

Yes, muscle is more dense than fat.

Yes, I think everyone concedes this when it's brought up every time someone mistakenly uses this phrase.

A better way to describe it would be, muscle is more dense than fat so a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat, but we're never going to get everyone to agree, ya know?

Yes, muscle is more dense then fat, but I thought that was an easier way to explain it to the people that actually state that concept. Wink

Well really stating that muscle weighs more than fat is not wrong - it's an incomplete statement, not an incorrect one. What people mean when they say that, I am sure, is that given equal volumes of fat and muscle, the muscle will weigh more.

I doubt that anyone besides Jessica Simpson might try to say that one pound of muscle is heavier than one pound of fat ;)

A pound of feathers still weighs the same as a pound of bricks. The feathers just take up more space.

I believe you are correct in how the statement is usual said.  It's all about the volume.

I would also add Paris Hilton with Jessica as thinking a pound ov muscle is heavier than one of fat.

When it is stated "incompletely" it is wrong!

And you would be surprised on how many people don't understand the actual meaning besides Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton lol,and it isn't just a publicity stunt.
