What Muscles Can You See? (That You Couldn't Before)

Quote  |  Reply

This morning, I looked in the mirror and I could see that upper back/shoulder muscle that can get scary big on male body builders.  (Looking at the anatomy diagram on the poster that came with my dumbbells, I think it's the trapezius?)  My upper shoulders are a bit stiff (probably from hauling groceries home from the store), so it might be water retention, but it surprised me 'cause I've never been able to see that muscle before.

Back in the fall, I became able to see distinct shoulder muscles (rather than just straight flabby arms) as well.  No visible changes in my thighs/glutes as of yet; they're definitely firmer, but they must still have too much fat over them to see the muscles.  And I still can't flex my biceps the way I remember the guys doing in high school when they felt like showing off.

I can see nice triceps starting, and also nice back muscles too- they are cute little ones! My arms look a bit thicker (which i dont love) but I am hoping as I continue they will start to get defined!!

It might just be in my head, but I feel like my mid-section is trimming up a bit, mostly from bracing my core throughout my NROLFW workouts!

Yay to both of you!!  It is so exciting to see new muscles popping out.  The first muscles I noticed were in my forearms.  They got defined right away.... the biceps and tris a little later for me... then the abs, bum  and legs.  I want more, more, more~~~~~!!

Good job ladies!

I think my body's changing too - especially upper back and shoulders. My tank tops barely fit nowadays.

No triceps yet :( But they are getting stronger, so I'm hoping to see them some time soon :)

I don't think I see any changes yet but I am definitely stronger.

Maha~  You're looking great!!!

I'm noticing that my arms are looking much nicer and I'm getting a few of those little muscles in my back showing here and there.  My legs feel super strong too.  I'm mostly waiting for that middle area to shape up and change some...

I have developed these awesome little muscles on the sides of my arms which are apparently little bands of my delts that come down, or else they are some wierd part of my triceps that I don't think are actually on the sides of my arms. Anyhow, I think they are from the push ups and they are freaking NEAT just because I didn't know they were there.

On my non-bloaty, "I'm feelin sleek and have good lighting" days I can see my lats in a way I never could before I started lifting. I can flex them and see them move!  I've also grown myself some sweet quads from doing squats.... i put on 4 lbs of muscle in the last could months and I think it all went to my quads. They are still small, but I no longer have fashionable "stick legs" but instead of some curves up top. I am trying to learn to love it because I know thick muscled thighs are capable of taking me places, whereas the skinny stick legs I had before might have looked better in a bikini but couldn't do much as function goes.

I am seeing less now than I saw end of Nov.  I am really struggling - eating too much.  Started today AGAIN to try to stay within calorie limit.  I did first workout of stage 7 this morning.  It was very strenuous and challenging.  It felt great and it felt like a fat burning workout so maybe that will motivate me.  I was supposed to start stage 6 today but am feeling so chubby I decided maybe a fat burning workout would help.  So - here I am.  Wish me luck.

Having said all that, underneath my light layer of chub, are firm lovely muscles.  I just have to coax them out from hiding.  :)

I am feeling so much stronger, and I feel like my mid section has firmed up a little, and I can see some more definition in my legs but they're still coated in fat which prevents the muscle from really showing. Yuck! I'm hoping adding more cardio will uncover all the muscle I've been working for! Undecided I can see more definition in my arms and shoulders though so that's good. Again...a little layer of fat that I could really do without!!

Laura and Ckfyamaha, I'm right there with you! Eating well is so hard for me! I'm trying to be reasonable with myself and my diet. I'm happy with where I'm at, soft layer and all, and that makes it harder to push myself to the next level.

I can feel my fab new muscles, and there's certainly more definition to my arms - especially shoulders, than before, but I'm hiding it under the winter layer.

I've also noticed a few other changes that are exciting, but not specifically muscles: I can see the definition of my clavical bone much more than I did when I started this adventure. My butt is rounder and firmer and higher! And, I have more of a visible waist line.

My glutes are higher, can't really see them unless I bend over certain ways, but its waaay better. Just gotta get rid of the flabby around it.

I'm somteimtes surprised when I'm brushing my hair or my teeth and I see my arms in the mirror.  I'm not sure if it's more/bigger muscles or just that I'm losing some of the fat, but my arms are definitely more defined.

Also, my thighs are starting to get there.  Once in a while I see the outline of a quad, instead of just the squishy fat on top of it, lol.

Funny you just said this. I am just in the midst of blowdrying my hair, and looked in the mirror. I think my biceps are coming along very nicely. And hubby says my back looks nice and lean now :)

I may possibly be starting to see some definition in the quads.  My legs have been the most difficult thing to shape up.  I've been meaning to repeat my measurements, but every time I do, I get discouraged so I have been putting it off.

Nearing the end of stage 3, and I am definitely proud of how my arms and shoulders look. Now I have defined arms even when I'm not flexing, and my t-shirts are pretty tight on the shoulders and biceps! That's the most noticeable difference, although I can also tell that because my upper body is more defined, my waist seems more cinched in even though I have yet to see much definition in the middle so it may just be more balanced now. I also have less cellulite in my legs and butt, nearly gone as a matter of fact. Laughing

Nothing I couldn't see before, but I can see MORE of them...mostly deltoids, traps, and quads.

I haven't noticed anything too drastic myself, but I just got my first muscle related compliment! I'm wearing a tank top today and my coworkers said they can see more definition and muscles in my arms and shoulders. I thought I was seeing something there too, but knowing that others are noticing it too and it's not all wishful thinking has me so pumped!

fayebie, that's great, congrats!

It's been 3 months since my last post in this thread, and I can say that my upper body is definitely more defined now.  As for triceps - they do show sometimes, but not always.
