my muscles are turning into fat
for some reason this always seems to happen around the winter holidays . there must be some scientific reason it happens, maybe it has something to do with the tropic of capricorn?? im almost a capricorn & my grandmother was.![]()
anyway.....does anyone else find it difficult to get out to the gym or anywhere to exercise during the winter??? & all i want to do is eat!!!
Muscle and fat are two totally seperate tissues, muscle is about as likely to turn into fat as lead is to turn into gold.
Try upping your Vitamin D, even as much as 2000 IUs a day. It could be SAD.
(And you might as well throw some calcium in with it.)

hmmm, well i guess my joke didn't quite come across too well, i clearly thought the capricorn thing might've hinted at some sacrasm. ill try harder next time i need to procrastinate at work. jeez!!!
& yes trhawley i think its sad. i was able to get maybe 10 minutes of sun on my face yesterday before the clouds & darkness!!!
It could be the Placebo Effect but I really think the Vitamin D helps me. I don't take it in the summer because I get plenty of sun.

If I could turn my fat into gold...then I'd be on to something
I don't know how to turn fat into gold but I know how to turn iron into muscle...lift it.
Awww, I liked your joke.....
Yeah, you gotta take advantage of the nicer winter days and walk your buns around town. The other day, it was so dark and gloomy out that I just stayed in my pj's all day long and kept the Christmas tree lit all day. Might as well make it cozy.
I guess we need to come up with better alternatives to comfort foods or holiday favorites eh? Somehow, Hanukah celery just doesn't do it for me.
Comfort iron?
would comfrot iron be like a 45lb weight rapped in pillows?
i find this post hilarious, bec i truly find weight lifting heartwarming. the other day i got to the gym freezing cold and not wanting to take off a single layer, not even my hat. i cleaned the rack and set up the bar fully winter-clothed. i shed layers and got right to lifting and w/in 20 seconds, i was warm. in a couple minutes, i was literally sweating. i kept thinking how awesome lifting is and how much love i have for it.
i definitely understand seasonal affective disorder. it's pouring outside and gray and miserable. and yet, i had no doubts about heading to the gym this morning and enjoyed every last minute of it. good luck to your muscle resisting the fat transformation.
i had a very nice workout last night, lifting, the feeling lasted for a couple of hours but it was still hard to get my butt to the gym. its just the thought of going out in the cold, even leaving the gym was hard.

Yes, yes and me too. I think I have a little bit of SAD too. Always have. I am fighting it though. TOday I worked out after not doing so since Saturday, and I put in a wimpy effort on Sat. But after 3 days off, I was able to work out much harder today (although I could not hold the plank for the full amount the third time around - just lacked the mental toughness). I won't have time to work out again now until Saturday. So maybe an option for you is to just go for two good workouts a week for now until you feel up to doing more. And something that has been helping me fight my starchy carb cravings is mint tea. It has a strong flavor that lingers after you finish the tea and it seems to be beating back the cravings. One last thing that is helping me is that I have a small collection of weights at home, so I did not have to the gym on this miserable, damp, rainy, horrible day. And when I have to HIIT, I use a jump rope, so don't have to go out for that either.
Good Luck! Don't get discouraged. Just do as much as you can right now until you are ready to go full throttle again.
ok laura, i think maybe i should look into getting some weights at home. but first ill have to clean up our junk room if not my husband'll freak about bringing more stuff in our small apartment. but im afraid to not be hard on myself though. my inner brat & hard task master always do battles, but i get more things done when im harder on myself. but i guess we can't be 'full throttle' all the time.
& thanks trendstudent for liking my joke.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
