What music do you like to listen to when you excercise?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey! My name is Jes.

I'm 20 years old and I'm new to this group.

I love to listen to music while I excercise but I find that every once and awhile its good to add a new song or two to my playlist to mix things up.

Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it. :]

Hey Jes

I personally have a lot of fun with Latin music, fast merenge and ricky martin look up this song "Pegate" is very energetic, I use shakira also anything fast and with a good strong beat it will make you body move no matter how tired you are.

I have mix of music most of it is rock...I've got some Linkin Park, Led Zepplin, My Chemical Romance, Aerosmith, Queen, Blink 182, System of a Down, Green Day, Gym Class Heroes, Jet, and a few select rap...not much, I'm more of a rock person...but here is my trick. I like to throw in an upbeat silly song like Celebration by Kool & The Gang, a little bit of Miley Cyrus, Eye of the Tiger, sometimes I even throw in a Disney song--I just can't wait to be king or something. Good times. Then when I'm rocking out and running all of a sudden I almost laugh. It's good to have something that makes you laugh when you're suffering!!!

Those are some great suggestions.

G that "Pegate" song is amazing! I would of never thought of Ricky Martin. And I love listening to Shakira when I work out. She really gets your body moving! You are the best!

Seallain413 I love your music taste. Its very simular to mine so needless to say I love all your suggestions! And I will have to try adding a disney song to my playlist haha. I love it! :]

Hi Jes,

Great idea for a thread!  Right now I've listened to one cd since it came in on the 15th, how I Love preordering things... but it's "Overcome" by All That Remains.  It's been great for cardio (if you like metal core that is) and the tempo does vary so I get a little leeway to slow up and I can go longer.  I'd recommend "Two Weeks", "Do Not Obey" (jumping rope/jumping jacks etc to this one is great) and  "Believe in Nothing" (Nevermore cover [and very Very well done] on the cd but good for stretching).

Other then that, I have groups like Lafee, Sha, Silbermond, AFI, Kiss, Paramore, Automatic Loveletter, Fall Out Boy, Pink, Metallica, Cascada, Queen and Fairmont on my usual workout mix.

Listening to Latin music is my secret... I LOVE Daddy Yankee for working out! Although I must confess, I try not to listen to the words... they make me collapse into a giggling heap most of the time, they make NO sense! LOL!

Hey ladies,

Ladyduece I tried some of your suggestions and I loved it! You have great taste in music. I don't ussually listen to alot of metal but you opened my eyes to that option. Thanks!

Solangeatira latin music is great for working out! I've never tried Daddy Yankee but I will make it a point to download some of his music. Do you have a favorite by him?

Best of luck to you all,

Glad I could help Jes!  I listen to such a wide range of stuff but it does come in handy!

Yeah, I'm a total sucker for "Gasolina" and "Rompe". I guess it's cause I learned to salsa dance to those so I have REALLY good memories attached. LOL!

I'm a huge fan of listening to Motown while working out!  I also like listening to stuff like Buddy Holly, the Beach Boys, and Frankie Valli.  It's just so upbeat and the tempos are so fast you can't help but work out fast.

If you like rock you might appreciate Death From Above 1979.

They were a bit of an indie hit and have since broken up (after putting out one album and a remix album which is AMAZING). You can probably find them on last.fm or somesuch.

I've listened to their music whilst working out for years and I've yet to find something that gets me as energized. Heavy beats work wonders!

The Go! Team can be great, too. If I think of any more I'll be sure to post!

I like listening to rhythmic songs. I like Latino music, currently Salsa. =) Fast paced music is good for jogging. =)

I can totally recommend Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, they have a pop beat that keeps me motivated and happy to keep going.

I like a good variety of music, this is an example of whats on my workout play list right now:

Bombs Over Bagdad - Outcast

White Light - Gorillaz

Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen (I throw that one and Baby Got Back in for kicks)

Pure Pleasure Seeker - Moloko

Man Eater - Nelly Furtado

I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness

He's Going the Distance - Cake

The Salmon Dance - My Chemical Romance (this song is really funny, and catchy!)

And a bunch of M.I.A. (she has really crazy beats, love it), some Benny Benassi and Goldfrapp (both kinda racey... Euro club music really, but good motivators I've found)

As silly/cliche as it sounds, some jock jams like they play at sports games are pretty good too.

I have got to add Going the Distance to my play list!!! I think that song will get me through the last 5 minutes of spinning. I like slower songs for weights and the faster stuff for my cardio. If I listen to fast songs while weight lifting, I find myself dropping the weight too fast to keep up with the beat, then I hyper extend an elbow.

I like Joshua Kadison and Jose Gonzales for weights and I get into the oldies for my cardio. I broke my 30  minute mark on the spin bike yesterday listening to Kodachrome by Simon and Garfunkle.

It honestly depends on the type of exercise I'm doing. Generally I listen to chessy pop music though. Having grown up a dancer, it puts me in the mood to move.

My favorite band is the Killers, and I ahve found that they're great to run to. Lots of mjaor-key, uplifting songs to chose from, like Smile Like You Mean It, Under the Gun, Spaceman, All These Things that I've Done (nice and long), etc.
