Music to Soothe the Soul

Quote  |  Reply

Hymns have a way of bringing scriptures to our remembrance... What's your favorite hymn, and is there a particular line in the song that speaks to you?

Hymn:  "Hold to God's Unchanging Hand"

Line: When your journey is completed, if to God you have been true, fair and bright your home in Glory, your enraptured soul will view!

I feel that I must share a song with the group.

The song is One Touch [Press].  It is from Nicole C. Mullen.

I hope that you can get to the (Link).  I hope that it blesses you as it did me.

This a very powerful song.  It talks about how we must Press through the crowd to get to HIM.  We must Press through our situations, our mental anguish to to get to HIM.  Then after our faith touches HIS heart, allow HIM to touch our garment.  HE can make you complete.

When I saw this video, this came to my mind.  There are a lot of hurting people out there.  The hurting people are trying to find something or someone to take away the pain.  They are reaching out.   The church is the body of Christ.  We are His hands and His feet.  We need to reach out to the addicted, the hopeless, the shamed, the rejected, the forgottened, the abused.....

Thank you!  I sat here with tears streaming down my face.  The words on the people's shirts that are discarded - shame and rejected - were the ones that hit me personally.  He has made me complete by His touch today!

An oldie but a goodie, "’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus."
The whole song speaks to me, my sentiments exactly.

’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

"Take Me In"

Take me past the outer courts
Into the Holy Place
Past the brazen altar
Lord I want to see your face
Pass me by the crowds of people
And the Priests who sing your praise
I hunger and thirst for your righteousness
But it's only found in one place

[Chorus:]
Take me into the holy of holies
Take me in by the blood of the lamb
Take me into the holy of holies
Take the coal, touch my lips, here I am

Love this one, many people singing it makes it sound even better !

The words to this song just touched my heart yesterday as I was coming in to work. I just sobbed,  The melody is beautiful as well, but the words are very encouraging and true!

I will rise by Chris Tomlin

There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say "It is well"

[Chorus – below]

There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

[Chorus]

Jesus has overcome
And the grave is overwhelmed
The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain
I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And rise , I will rise

Awesome!  Thanks Denna for posting the link!

I was reading Psalm 91 the other day and this song popped into my head.  I would like to share it with the group.

Continue looking to HIM.....

Shadow of Your Wings

by Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire

Hear my cry sweet lovely Jesus
Keep me safe from all the enemies that would destroy my soul.
Let me dwell in the fortress of Your love
My heart is marked my Your blood
O Lamb of sweet communion
You're my security
Your Covenant covers every part of me.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
shall rest in the shadow of Your wings.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
shall rest in the shadow of Your wings.

A thousand may fall by my side
Ten thousand fall at my right hand
but You said they can't come near
You've got a heavenly host of angels guarding me
(You've got a heavenly host of angels guarding me)

Tho' the plagues may rage around me
O God of sweet deliverance
You crush that serpent's head
and Your covenant conquered death just like You said.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
shall rest in the shadow of Your wings.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
shall rest in the shadow of Your wings.

Here is the only [ video ] that I could find for this song

Again, not a hymn, but a great song:  Be With You, by Rich Mullins.

I particularly like:

When my body lies in the ruins of the lies that nearly ruined me
Will You pick up the pieces that were pure and true
Breathe Your life into them and set them free
And when You blast this cosmos to kingdom come
When those jagged edged mountains I love are gone
When the sky is crossed with the tears of a thousand falling suns
As they crash into the sea...
Can I be with You?

I like remembering that even as part of me is constantly working towards my own destruction, God's plans involve me getting to see the tearing down of the universe He created.

Revelation 6:12-14

-- Kevin

Hey Kevin -  I'm not familiar with that song.  It is a horrible reminder though of that terrible time when God does pour out his wrath the earth.

Thankfully though, I plan to be together with my Lord at his supper table for the 7 year feast!  Which is why it is more important than ever to share the Good News of the Gospel of Christ - that he died for our sins, was buried and rose again and lives today, and is coming back to take us to be with him!

Great is Thy Faithfulness is one of my favorite songs and the stanza that just really gives me goose bumps is: Morning by morning new mercies I see

all I have needed thy hand has provided

Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me

I saw this and wanted to pass this on - Spirit in The Sky by Norman Greenbaum:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG8K4kYTpG0

The pictures are amazing.  This was just one of the posts following:  Thank you so much for this. I just used it for a dedication on a post for my sister-in-law who passed away yesterday. This is a blessings and will be to our entire family!

Every time I hear "Desperate Poeple" by Desperation Band (I think) I can't help but be moved.

Favorite Lines: "We didn't come to leave here entertained, or worship under any other name"      &nbs p;  "We've found our voice, we've found our cause, we're on our knees, the carpet's worn"

Chorus: "This is our love, heart's joined as one, desperate for all you are. Lord, break down these walls, see how we run, desperate for all you are. We chase your heart."

Even now just writing it I'm moved.

Thank You Misty for sharing.  As I was reading your post, I was wondering what the music would be like.  I just had to look it up.

It is from the Album from Hillsong United "Desperate People"

Thanks so much! I couldn't remember who it was, but I love that song!
