Musical Legends/Prophets

Quote  |  Reply

As I was driving home I started thinking about MJ as a musical legend/prophet. I think he qualifies. Let's make a list of some musical legends and hash out whether they get prophet status. Doesn't matter the era or the genre.

Legends that I think are prophets.

  • Michael Jackson
  • John Lennon
  • Prince
  • Elvis
  • Mozart
  • Beethoven

It doesn't matter if you don't like them personally or if they have a bad personality or were freaky weird. It's their music and their talent and their ability to influence the music world that elevates them to prophet status.

I believe Jimi Hendrix had a massive influence on the guitar playing world and indeed was a legend in his art.

Yes, let's include legends in their own field such as guitar playing.

MY DESCRIPTION EXACTLY. they were prophets, their message was/is transmitted through their music. absolutely.

Madonna?

Bob Dylan

EDIT to add: Tom Waits

Led Zeppelin.

Nick Cave

Richard Wagner

David Eugene Edwards

BB King

Janis Joplin

I'm not sure what "prophet" means.  Are you saying they predicted/created their genre?

Dunno.

Anyway, I think Johnny Cash might qualify.  The Doors maybe?

Miles Davis

Frank Zappa

... none of you mentioned Bob Marley? BOB MARLEY. The closest thing to a prophet one can get to.

edit: and he even has the LEGEND cd.. so come on. Dont forget the Lion in Zion.

Jerry Garcia.

In no particular order:

  • Stevie Wonder
  • Ray Charles
  • Aretha Franklin
  • Eric Clapton
  • Joe Strummer
  • Danny Elfman
  • Sting

Marley was first to come to mind.

Adding Kurt Cobain to the list.

I was thinking along the lines that prophet did not mean predicted/created. It means more like trascending or godlike. I know the term godlike will P O a bunch of people, but I don't mean god as in God. I mean god as in bigger than human. Deity isn't quite the right word either.
