Musical Legends/Prophets

Quote  |  Reply

As I was driving home I started thinking about MJ as a musical legend/prophet. I think he qualifies. Let's make a list of some musical legends and hash out whether they get prophet status. Doesn't matter the era or the genre.

Legends that I think are prophets.

  • Michael Jackson
  • John Lennon
  • Prince
  • Elvis
  • Mozart
  • Beethoven

It doesn't matter if you don't like them personally or if they have a bad personality or were freaky weird. It's their music and their talent and their ability to influence the music world that elevates them to prophet status.

Blondie?

Madonna definitely makes legend status. I actually think she gets prophet because she broke so many barriers and has evolved and regenerated so many times.

lol...I'm kidding I'm kidding!

Seriously though, I'd have to say Prince--he has legendary status.

Cher.....boy she is a great performer!

So far you guys have said

Bob marley, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Madonna.

good precaution

Freddy Mercury actually refused to have his ovebite "repaired" as he cited it would change his voice and his voice was his art.  Aesthetics of his face has nothng to do with the music it produces.  I have always applauded him and his denial of vanity for the sake of his art.  Beautiful man.  Beautiful artist.

I can see Public Enemy, but you really think N.W.A.?

James Brown

Chuck Berry

Bruce Springsteen

Louis Armstrong

Ella Fitzgerald

Billie Holiday

N.W.A. for sure.  Straight Outta Compton was the first real gangster rap album.

The impact of the music they made can still be heard today.

I hates rap

I think we need to add Quincy Jones, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles.

Freddie! I vote Freddie Mercury to spot 7.

And like moonikins said. At least one Rat Pack era artist for sure.

"Weird" Al?

^^ Oh Yea!

But srsly...

Here's one Simon & Garfunkle, esp American Tune.  The Indigo Girls did a great version of that song.

I have found so many culturally-relative songs that came out in the 60's & 70's that are even more relative currently than when they came out.  Sometimes, it makes me knda sad.  Its hard for me to hear Imagine by John Lennon anymore.

Sex Pistols and Ramones

I love Weird Al. I can't help myself. Does anyone remember listening to Dr. Demento?
