We must banish pizza!

Quote  |  Reply
I thought I would be "good" and limit my pizza slices to two. I even researched the caloric content as best I could, and I was right around my daily intake at the end of the day, but I still think it was very bad for me. Maybe it was the salt content, maybe it was the calories, but I sure will think twice next time "pizza night" comes around!

Banish Pizza? No way! Here, I'll take yours.

The thing with Pizza is.. if you're going to have some, enjoy it. Either go home-made where you control the ingredients or splurge and get GOOD pizza.

But don't go for the "Tastes vaguely like Cardboard" Pizza. If you can't enjoy it, you shouldn't bother to eat it.

No. No. No. No. You can't possibly banish pizza. It's my favourite.

Oh, no no no no no......Pizza is good, my friend, it just depends on how it's made.

If you don't like the healthier frozen varieties out there, make your own so you can control exactly what goes in and on it.  Whole wheat crust, fresh tomato sauce, reduced fat (or heck, full fat) cheese, and a lot of veggies makes a very reasonable, and healthy pizza - just control portion size.

Banishing pizza truly is wishful thinking! However, my friend suggested the South Beach pizzas, saying they are to die for. We do make pizzas homemade from scratch, but there's nothing that matches Papa John's in my opinion. Guess I will have to exercise harder those days. I have banished McDonad's for over a year now, so there's always hope for self-control!

I make mine out of whole wheat english muffins or pitas with veggie pepperoni (I swear you'll never notice the difference). It satisfies my pizza craving while keeping the calories lower.

santonacci - yes!  pizza can be great, and to be honest, i eat it at least twice a week, but it's all about portion control.  pizza definitely should not be banished...just adjusted.
banish....pizza.....???

Bite you tongue!!!  Speak not of such evils!!!!  I *heart* pizza!!!  :-)

but, yes, it can be difficult to control the amount eaten and the sodium will stick with you for a few days, but after that, you're good :-)

lindacutter---i know exactly how you feel. i completely banished frenchfries. it was my weakness. last year i was eating it 3 days a week. in august i had a bet with my friends that i wouldn't touch it from august 2007  to december 2007, and i stuck to it. but i still won't go near it in 2008. i don't have the "moderation" thing in me when it comes to fries... so it's out.

i know i'm not setting the best example.. but i can't bring myself to bring fries near my lips. don't even wanna smell it.

but pizza??? never! pizza good*

I have pizza about once every two weeks, but I plan for it. I eat light on those days and just make sure you drink water the next to wash out the sodium you had with your pizza. Also just make sure your work-outs are a little more intense so you don't feel guilty for eating pizza enjoy...if you deprive yourself that isn't good either. Laughing

I got my hands on a pizza a week ago, broke it up in pieces and froze it, and am on pizza rations for lunch until it's gone.  One slice a day max - 200-300 cals each depending on the size.  Sure tastes good, and less calories than a BLT.
We eat pizza almost every week... it's GOOD! And since I exercise proper portion control (I take my two slices and ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO BACK FOR MORE!) it's not that terrible... we like Dijorno's 'ultimate' frozen pizza and 1/5 of the pizza has 370 calories so it's not that terrible as long as you don't pig out. The leftovers next day are more temptation :P
If you think you can banish pizza you'll have to get through me first.

that is just so -- wrong.

Quite truthfully, if I'm doing pizza I don't even think about the calories or the number of slices.  But I don't do it often, I do drink lots of water anyway, and I try to make my selection healthier than in the past (super thin crust, extra veggies, light on the cheese, etc)

Yeah, pizza has a b**** ful of calories lol...stupid pizza...why does it have to taste so darn good!!! I love my pizza and pasta and I won't eliminate them from my diet....I figure once a week isn't bad if you are good during the week.

Just don't give into your craving ALL the time.

Is veggie pepperoni really that good? I am guessing it's so much lower in sodium?? This pizza talk is making my mouth water as I am munching on a carrot stick. Don't worry, I had a Lean Pocket with Habanero Louianna Hot Sauce. Now that stuff rocks!
pizza is gross anyway
I have pizza about once a week.  I buy a frozen pizza from Trader Joe's (BBQ chicken) and plan to have either 1/2 or all of it depending.  I also cook a pound of broccoli to accompany it and I have to finish the broccoli before I can have the other half.  It totals around 760 calories if I have the whole pizza and it tastes great!
Never banish pizza! I make mine at home! I make a regular crust with 1/2 whole wheat flour and roll it out really thin and crispy. Then I make it margherita style, with fresh tomato and basil, and fresh mozza. It's not greasy at all, and the expensiveness of the cheese keeps me from putting too much on!
I went to a pizza buffet for lunch today.  I used to work there and my fiance still does.  I started my whole dietary change while I worked there, ate pizza every frickin' day, and lost forty pounds.

There are ways of making pizza a little healthier for you.  Ask for crispy crust without oil or garlic butter on the back, but rather cooking spray on the pan.  Go light on the sauce, or even no sauce and ask for it on the side.  Don't get toppings you know are loaded with salt, like banana peppers, olives, pepperoni, and sausage.  And ask them to go light on their salty, salty cheese.

Or.. OR!!  Eat in moderation.  Have one slice and a salad.  If pizza really isn't your thing, banish it from your diet.  I'm keeping it a strong part of mine.

I too love pizza had it last night.....my portion control is a bit on the non existant side...so I'll be working out and be a little more active today.  Hopefully to get it balanced out.

I also use the pita method for making pizza at home and it really does work for cutting those cravings for it.  The crust gets crispy in the oven and it really cuts back on the "badness" of restaurant pizza.
