Must I exercise in order to lose weight?

Is it mandatory to exercise in the sense that I can’t lose weight without exercising?  I just started to watch my calories and I need to know.

As long as you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight. It’s easy to lose without exercise initially, but difficult to maintain without it.  And so, since you’ll need to exercise for maintenance, start thinking about a plan now. Consider going to a gym, biking to school, joining a sports team, or working as a landscaper because all physical activity counts as exercise.  Exercise has other benefits in addition to burning calories.  They include appetite suppression, stress relief, more energy, better sleep, and lowered risk for heart disease, cancer and bone fractures.
