what have i gotten myself into?! =O
the fiance and i are going to a banquet next friday evening - we're actually going to a formal on thursday and a banquet on friday (talk about lots of dancing to burn off lots-o-calories :D). anyway, we went shopping this past weekend to find me a dress for the aforementioned banquet (the formal dress i bought a while back). we walked into forever 21 (never even been inside the place 'til then) and was blown away at how cheap cocktail-type dresses were - score! i tried a couple on and convinced myself to buy this super cute... mini dress! =O
here's the link to the mini: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog% 5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=dress%5F dressy&product%5Fid=2059682634&Page=a ll
i haven't quite figured out the hyperlink yet - it doesn't seem to be working for me. :(
i got it in purple though. it's a gorgeous color, totally sweet dress. i'm planning on pairing it with a black sweater (gotta cover something up - can't be all exposed during my speech). did i mention i have to stand up in a room full of people and actually give a speech, in this delectable mini?! double =O. when i tried it on in the store, i thought to myself "ya know, i can make this work." when i got home, and thought about it for a few days, i now think to myself "do i really have the confidence to wear that thing in public?!" it's short - and i've never really been a big fan of my legs. "/ they are what i like to call... thick.
anyway, talk about motivation! i've been hitting the gym trying to tone up my legs as much as possible - within a week, ha! we'll see how it goes - if i dare to wear the mini... or if i chicken out and play it safe with a longer dress i already own.
what do you think?! should i say "what the heck, i'll totally rock that mini!" and wear it... or play it safe and wear a longer, more conservative dress??
thanks for reading! :D
Wear the dress! You bought it because it looked good. Your fiance thought it looked good...I assume. Wear the sweater with it. Go for it.
Don't overdue the workouts and starve yourself though....stick with your eating and workout plans as usual. You want to feel good when you get up there and talk, not exhausted and hungry.
Just my opinion. Good luck to you and have fun with it.
Rock it out! No question!
thanks, trcyh, for the encouragement!
i think i just needed somebody else to tell me it's not a bad idea, haha! my fiance thought it looked great, but he always tells me i look great - even in the mornings when i have crazy bed head and sleepy eyes. (aww, he's so sweet).
and i am definitely not going to starve myself - not eating is simply not an option, lol. i've just been a little more conscience about really feeling the burn in my legs when i do workout - but no additional extreme workouts. when i do workout though, i tell myself "you WILL rock that dress!" haha! silly, i know. "/
anyway, thanks for the response! :D
if you're worried about showing too much in a formal setting. I would not wear it with bare legs. Why not pair it with black stockings? Either sheer or full black, it'll make your legs look long and lean without showing too much skin.
akasharaine: i love your attitude! i think i just might! :D
noka_poka_dot: good point. i contemplated the stockings thing, but i'm not too sure if it might look like i'm trying a little too hard to be runway-glam, haha! i'm definitely going with a sweater on top though. and i bought some cute earrings and a necklace to add to the ensemble. it's not a real formal occassion, more of a semi-formal one. lots-o-cocktail dresses, so i won't be the only one showing a little skin (i've been to this same banquet in the past). thanks for your input though - the stockings idea is a good one!
totally rock it!! throw on some nice tall heels and your legs will look even longer and leaner!
Thick legs are sexy. I bet you can rock it. Espcially with a pair of heels to make you flex your calves and make your legs look longer. :0)
ya'll are totally convincing me to wear it... and wear it with pride! :D
themonbon: my fiance says the same thing, haha! ;)
No! to the sweater. Wear a shawl. Much sexier IMO. ![]()
I WANT THAT DRESS SO BAD! but they dont have the one i want in my size :( ... i'm looking at getting the linen one that's almost exactly the same. love it! i bet you'll look fab in it! i definitely say wear it! you go girl!
now you'ev got me looking at clothes...thanks a lot hahahaha.
definitely wear it!!!!!! don't even look back, if you feel sexy in it stay confident!
Wow forever 21 is one of my favorite stores!
If you go to Papaya, Charolette Russe, and Bebe, Urban Outfitters, etc they always have adorable clothing. :)
Also I think you can totally rock a mini! The great thing about a mini is that it's small so it makes your legs look longer! :)
Don't wear a sweater! Unless it's one of those bolero thingies. Colar bones are super sexy and are on full show in that hot dress! Defo on the heels and if you don't want to look like you're wearing stockings, wear skin coloured ones. Not everyone likes them, but they make your legs look firmer without looking too covered. I know, I have chunky legs, even when I was a UK size 10 I had them.
I agree wear a shawl or a little knit cardi. Don't cover up. ROCK IT!
ya'll are super sweet and just the encouragement i needed to boost my confidence. the more i read your posts over and over, i picture myself totally rocking that mini next friday night, haha!
mommakitty & growantree: i never thought of wearing a shawl with it. perhaps i shall go shopping for one this weekend! :D
aperfectblink: i tried a few on that all looked similar but were slightly different. i really liked this one because it has pockets, haha! i tried this one on (http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog% 5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=dress%5F dressy&product%5Fid=2054114865&Page=a ll) and it made me feel like i was going to the prom... back in the '80s (haha!) with all the tulle and poofy-ness. my fiance really liked it, but it was a little too much poof for me. it's super cute though.
shg_chiquita: looking at clothes is fun! :D
thohan: i've been to urban outfitters before - their clothes are very cute. and yes, i need all the help i can get in making my legs look longer, haha! i've also been applying that jergens natural glow sunless tan lotion to give my legs a little color - there just about as white as can be. "/ which is cool and all, but i've heard several times that slightly tanned legs (and arms and tummies, etc.) have the illusion of being slimmer - yess! we'll see how it goes. perhaps i'll even take pictures and post them to my profile (if i dare step in front of a camera wearing an itty bitty dress, lol).
thanks so much again to all of you! cc-ers rock! :D
I totally got my graduation dress from Forever 21. Second thing I ever got from there.
I got this little beauty: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog% 5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=dress%5F dressy&product%5Fid=2060232948&Page=1
We have to wear a white dress under our gowns because they're totally see-through polyester. >> And not the really comfy polyster.
Use self-tanner on your legs instead of wearing panty hose. Panty hose are old lady.
Have a blast (from an old lady! lol!)
chris1208: that is too funny! i've been applying self tanner every morning for the past couple of days and my legs are lookin' better already! :D
