For the past week i have only eaten 250 calories a day.
i know its dumb and stupid and im tired of feeling tired and sick.
if i add on 150 more calories every four days and start working out more can i leave starvation mode without gaining back the weight?

You will probably gain a little back but it's nothing you can't lose once you get your metabolism back in order. Just add calories back slowly and eat healthy.

I wont even comment on the calorie in-take... ok, I will... Girl, you have to care more about yourself than to starve your body of the necessities!! You losing weight is never as important as you staying alive!!

On that note... I really don't know how your body will respond, but my guess is you will have some days of fluctuation until you get it back into "whack"... As a woman, you should never go below 1200 calories in a day! If you are physically active, you'll need to add on some calories.  I know there are crazy crash diets and going WAY low on calories that can get your body to give up some calories... but slow and steady wins the race and you'll feel great along the journey!  Take it from me... I'm 75 pounds down, 35 more to go... but I've done it over the past year with just eating about 1200-1500 calories each day and working out atleast 3 times a week...

Good luck and I hope you're able to jump up to your healthy calorie intake with out worrying about what the scale says... no matter what it says over the next week... over the next month, you WILL lose weight as you exercise and stick to your 1200+ calories!

i thought if u jump out of starvation mode, the first thing you'll see is the scale showing weight loss?

I can't imagine even existing on 250 calories.  When I get down to around 1200 I find it difficult to concentrate on my work. I climb about 8 flights of stairs a day and walk about 3 miles a day.  It's part of my job.  And the rest of the time I sit behind a desk. If I don't watch my intake close I can hardly walk up the stairs! the burn meter shows a 2900 calorie intake if I want to maintain my weight.  I'm eating about 1800 calories a day and loosing about 2 lbs a week. I wouldn't even attempt to loose more than 2lbs a week.  My food meter is set at 1700 calories to meet my weight loss goals. I just use common sense and follow the calorie guidelines here on the site.  And guess what? It works!

250 calories!!! and you're only going to add 150... you stand NO CHANCE of getting out of starvation because your body will still be starving on that. Try adding a minimum off 1000 cals then and only then will your body respond.

like jackattack07 said, you'll probably gain a little, but it shouldn't be too much. i mean, you've only been this low for a week, but try to add the calories back slowly and stay healthy from now on. but i know what starvation mode is like, i went through it last year, but it's nothing you can't fight off when it's done! :]

good luck!

That's because you can't. I mean you can for a while until your systems start shutting down and your body starts to eat its organs for fuel

OP at least you realize this isn't the way to go. Get some food into that body and stop treating it like you hate it! Would you starve a dog? No, right? Don't do that to yourself!

don't add slowly, you are already way too low. You don't have the six weeks it would require to do this!!

Start eating a maintenance-level diet for the fastest resolution of starvation mode. Yes, maintenance level, including your activity. After a week or two, your metabolism should be back up to normal. (Calorie restriction of any kind will just prolong the metabolic slowdown and make it take longer for your body to get back to normal).

You will gain weight, but please be reassured that it will not be all, or probably even mostly, fat. Just as the weight you have lost was not all fat. You will be refilling your water reserves, your glycogen reserves, and plumping up your cells. And every pound you gain during the repair phase (usually no more than 5 or,  sometimes, if you've been really really unhealthy and dehydrated, 10) is a pound that you will be able to take right back off in a healthy way, so don't fret it. Remember, your gain from fat will probably not be more than two or three pounds.
