2 hours is not a bad guideline. eating right right before bed is no good if you have asthma, sleep apnea, acid reflux and likely some others. it is no good for metabolism and hormone levels if your last meal is carbs. apparently fat is not digested as well during sleep either. like most myths, the findings may be mostly inconsequential but blown out of proportion.
I think this idea came with people trying to reduce how much they ate in total - if you don't eat in the evening, you'll probably be skipping dessert or late night snacks, which are almost inevitably unhealthy.
However, if you are counting calories, and you are keeping your total day within your allowance, you can eat whatever time you want. You certainly shouldn't not eat close to bed time if you will be seriously under your calorie goal.
Some people find that certain foods make them sleep poorly, and those should be avoided, but that's more your own preference.
Make sure to get a good healthy amount of calories spread out throughout the day. I usually eat a piece of fruit or a protein bar annnd sometimes I am guitly of reaching for the sweets 2 hours before bed. I don't eat anything big before bed, usually something under 150 calories, and it's been working for me.
