I was wondering if you awesome people would mind giving me a little advice.
What is a good food to eat while sick with the flu? The food should preferably be hot, healthy and between 85-100 calories. Any suggestions?
soup
I don't really know about 100 calories, besides some progresso soups. 100 caloires per serving.
But I feel oatmeal is great! Deffiantly when you are sick and need something hot. Also you can make some tea to help your throat as well. Also its 0 calories (:
Why does it have to be so low-calorie? most people with the flu struggle to eat enough and don't have to overly restrict.
I like the soup and oatmeal ideas. Plain or buttered toast is also good when you're struggling to keep food down... drink lots of juice... maybe some simple scrambled eggs or a vege stew? Risotto, rice pudding and other mildly flavoured rice dishes might be nice. Real yoghurt is good for your stomach, so long as you aren't taking antibiotics... bircher muesli (Swiss muesli soaked overnight in yoghurt, apple juice and grated apple) would also be easy on the stomach.
I like drinking hot lemon, honey and ginger drinks when I'm feeling sick. The ginger and lemon are good for nausea and the honey is good for your throat.
When I'm sick I don't bother worrying about the calories. I always get: Chicken noodle soup, crackers, fruit cocktail and applesauce. This is my signature dish when I'm sick. LOL.
2 boxes Chicken broth (low sodium) with rice, red kidney beans, artichoke hearts, peas carrots chips(the frozen kind), waxed or green beans, celery, tofu, cabbage, a can of crushed tomatoes, mushrooms, lemon grass, bamboo shoots. Umm what other veggies do you have?
I made it without the rice and it made like 32 - 1.5 cup servings @ 130 calories (depending on brands). When cooking in a huge pot add water to cover all veggies. and precook the rice add it to your bowl not the pot because the rice may get mushy.
After you gather your ingredients put them in Here and analyze it. If you are having trouble with it you can send me a message and I'll help.
Oh perfect RIGHT HERE: Canned Pureed Pumpkin with Cinnamon & Stevia!!! You can dish some of it out from the can & microwave it with the cinnamon & stevia! It's smooth, delicious & hearty... plus FULL of Vitamin A which helps fight off the flu - so you'll be feelin' good in no time!
1 cup of pumpkin is around 80 calories - PERFECT, no?!
