Hi all - I got a new horse about a week ago, and I hate the barn name she had "Diamond" - so generic and unimaginative! That being said, I'm really having a hard time coming up with something new (and I'm usually really good at naming critters!).  I think it may be because I've known her for 4 years, and it may be hard to think of her as anything but her current name.

She is a very pretty 10 year old tri-color tobiano paint mare.  Her registered name is "Bo's Miss Elegant".

What I like:  People names, or something creative, maybe based on the registered name or the fact that she's a paint horse.   I thought about "Ellie" and that's what I'll probably go with if no one else comes up with something great.

I don't have a picture of her yet, but this horse could almost be her twin except she has a little more brown in her main.

Thanks guys!

I like foxriver's idea to go with a name of a painter. I wish I would have thought of that idea!    But I'm an art lover so I'm biased.

When I was growing up we had a horse Named Platiazane.  She was the best horse in the world.

Xia means "glow of the sunrise" in Chinese.

Be careful with Chinese words, depending on the way you intonate it, it can mean a dozen different things. And even after you get the intonation right...you've still got a range of words it could mean.

Right now, when I look at "Xia", all I can think of is "down."

I'd go with "Ellie," really.  Short for Elegant, and also lends itself well to that singsong intonation I always used when calling my horse - "Ellllllllllll-eeeeeeeeee!"

With mine it was "Spaaaaaarrrrr-keeeeeee!"

Haha, that made me laugh. So true though.....when I'd walk down the barn aisle, I'd call out "Steeeeeaallll-liiiieeee" and then watch for his cute grey head to poke out over the stall door :)

For the record, I like Ellie too......or Ella.....

I like Elle - Ellie or Miss Bo.  If she is well behaved maybe even Sugar or Sweetie.

Yeah, don't name her Posse...that is my dog's name... nothing like standing out in the middle of the yard yelling  P (ah) oooooooossssssssssseeeeee at the top of your lungs....  definitely crazy lady next door material.  I swear the neighbor thinks i have Tourettes. Embarassed

Maybe Diego? or is that too boyish?...and it was a Mexican painter.

Jodie....nice and simple rolls of the tongue.

Wow, thanks for the responses.     Looks like my idea of Ellie is was a little popular.  I also like both Ruby and Hazel that one poster suggested.

The problem is both of my other horses have names that end in the"ee" sound.    We have Maggie and Lacy, so I was trying to avoid another name like that.   I was going to go with Ella, short for the elegant, but that's the name of a little girl in our riding club, so I don't know.

purespark, you made me laugh,  I know what you mean about the singsong.  We would call out to ours Maaaaaaaa-gie,  Lac-yyyyyyy, and then there was poor Dutch.   You just couldn't say that pretty...maybe he always thought we were mad at him?Wink

Any other ideas still welcome.

This one is kinda goofy - but I like Timber.

Masculine yes - but has a nice ring to it.  Ironically the name sounds reliable and sturdy.  LOL

"Timmmmbbbbberrrrrrrr"

How about Diana? It's similar to Diamond, but prettier. And you can intonate it nice. Picture yourself yelling Diiiii annnnn aaaaaa.

mooni - LOVE it!   Great idea.      We kind of did that for our Maggie - her reg name s Magics First Kiss, and they called her Magic, so we just changed it slightly.  Don't know why I didn't think of it.     Only one little issue - that's the name of the lady who took care of her (and she lives across the gravel drive from us) before we bought her.   Maybe we just won't tell her the new name.  She might hear us calling though - I guess that could be embarrassing.    Uggh...I just don't know...      I hate this, I'm normally so good at naming.  I don't think I've ever had a critter go un-named this long.
