Everyone has one!
What is your OCD?
(OCD= Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
My OCD's
-I HAVE to have the television volume at an even number
-When I'm typing somthing on word, if I mispell a word, I have to fix it immedietly, that red line annoys the hell out of me
-I CANNOT eat and while television while theres a commercial on, when it comes on I stop eating to wait for my show to come back on
-You know those little annoying fringey edges on a peice of paper ripped from a book, I can NEVER write on one with those little edges. I have to tear them off first
-I HAVE to go to sleep with the television on.

-And of course, my OCD with the foods I eat! :D

I'm sure I have A LOT more

So, what are your OCDS? :D

Fascinating topic. Don’t have any OCD’s I know of but after reading this I suspect my husband does. It is oh so clear now.

LOL!

  1. I have to sleep with ear plugs in. My soon to be Ex snored so bad nothing helped. He is gone now but the ear plugs stuck! Surprised I mean...I take them out during the day! LOL!
  2. I check all my doors to make sure they are locked at night! Sometimes two or three times!
  3. Before I can fall a sleep, my pillow needs to be just so and even the pillow case opening needs to be towards the inside of the bed!
  4. Oh here is another one! The toilet paper roll in the roller needs to be able to pull the paper from the top. When I clean I fold it into a nice triangle just like the motels do!

I had a client with this disorder and he would lock his car door, walk to the front bumper of his car, go back to the key hole and open the door again, lock it again and walk three times around his car like a chinese fire drill! Then made sure he locked the car door again! Now that is OCD! It drove me crazy!

How does everyone like the show Monk? I am not sure if this was asked yet. I apologize if it was.

I love that show!

If I'm the last person to leave work I have to double check the back door that it is locked at least a few times. And as I'm leaving the front- and locking it- I have to say out loud- "locking door"- otherwise when I get to my car I will wonder if I locked the door. I've been known to get out of my car and walk back to make sure that the door is locked. And when I turn the alarm on I repeat what the voice says- then I know I turned the alarm on- and I have to check at least a few times that the answering machine is turned on- I would probably check more but I close with another co-worker and I don't want them to think I'm that crazy.  I have also been known to drive almost all the way back to work to make sure that the door was locked and that I did turn the alarm on! Luckily- I only live 10 minutes from work....

I also count stairs when I'm walking up and down them- but usually in my head.   And if I'm waiting for an appointment in a doctor office- I will look up at the ceiling and count either ceiling tiles or the little holes.   But I was never that good in math so I don't know why I have a little obsession with counting things...or if there are different colors in a room I will go back and forth and say the different colors in my head- like, brown, green, red, brown, green, red...

I don't need an alarm clock though- I can just mentally tell myself before bed what time I want to wake up and I usually wake up at that exact time or a little earlier.  I know that isn't ocd but I think it is a great power.

Oh yeah,,,I forgot counting for me too! I even look at license plates and have them go over and over in my head! At my last job I did the same thing with the doors! Oiy...I better stop now!

Alrighty, I definitely have a few of these...

- I do the candy thing too where I separate out all the colors and then eat them until there are the same amount of every color, then I eat them so they all stay even

- I also do the sandwitch/burger thing where I eat in a circle until I get to the middle (aka the best part)

- When I am eating a meal I have to have everything that I have on my plate together in one bite, which usually results in me mooshing all of my food together. For example, if I am having meatloaf, rice and peas, I make a pile of rice, put the meatloaf on top, then the peas on top of that, then moosh them all together and eat them.

- I am scared to death that there is something wrong with my car. Before I get in I walk all around it making sure all the tires are inflate, the bumpers are not hanging off, ect. Then, often times, when I am driving I decide I hear a weird noise or feel something weird, and I pull over to the side of the road and check again. This can add an extra half hour to my daily commute sometimes, and it drives my DH crazy when we are together. He is always trying to convince me that there is nothing wrong with the car and we do not have to pull over and check.

- I CANNOT be late anywhere. I HATE being late. I will get to the airport AT LEAST 4 hours before my flight. I often get to the movies an hour early. I have the tendency to get to meetings or interviews at least an hour early. Consequently I have gotten quite proficient in killing time.

- Also count stairs, foot steps, etc and cannot step on any cracks. When I am walking on a sidewalk that has squares, I have to take the same number of steps in each square.

Alright, that is enough crazy for now

Well, I don't actually have OCD ... and as it can be a serious disorder I don't want to claim to have it! But I guess everyone has some OCD-style tendencies, ya?

- Every time I walk past a pedestrian crossing I have to press the button, even if I'm not crossing the road or if someone else has already pressed it.

- When I'm finishing a computer session I have to clear the history, the cookies, the cache (or if I'm using Safari it's as simple as 'Reset Safari', but that isn't quite as satisfying).

- In public toilets which I use often I always go in the same cubicle.

- I'm pretty obsessive about weighing myself too ... kind of a ritual going on (the scales have to line up exactly with the floor tiles and I have to be at X point in my morning routine and so on).

- When I'm walking along I mentally "weave in and out" of things. That's sort of hard to explain!

- When I'm about to shuffle all the songs on my MP3 player I always start with the same song.

I once heard a radio programme about this kind of thing and how common it is. It's interesting hearing how weird everyone is. I mean, you people are freaks ;-).

I'm exactly the same way, actually! Every day I leave my house at 8:30AM to be at work by 8:40AM and I don't start work until 9AM. I'm always a half hour early to class. When other people make me late, I get very angry.

Actually, all of the things I described are my main issues. I have several others. If something does not happen according to my ritual, I get very angry and start to cry. My entire day will be ruined if something doesn't happen to plan.

I'd just like to point out how disrespectful it is to call "little habits" obsessive compulsive disorder.  OCD is a devastating disease that takes over people's lives.  Wanting to tear off the edges of a paper is to OCD as wearing glasses is to being blind.
for me it is the sleeping with a fan on at night.  I have to have the noise and the wind blowing on me.  I can't breath if I don't.  A ceiling fan doesn't work because they aren't noisy enough.

I also have to spread butter on the entire piece of toast, I hate having dry spots on it.
i agree.  also, people who genuinely have OCD are highly suggestive when it comes to new OC behaviours, so hopefully they're not reading this.

that said, i've become a little compulsive about organization and tidiness in the last couple of years.  i also have a thing about crunching icecubes...i've curbed it to some extent, after doing an internet search and learning that it was often a precursor to other, much more intrusive OC behaviours (for awhile i couldn't pass the fridge without grabbing a couple of mini-icecubes, and if i was in a restaurant with friends and someone left a glass of ice on the table, it was everything i could do not to take it).
Most of my family actually has OCD, and I was always so frusterated with them while I was growing up, I swore I would never do those things. So, now my family jokes that I have OCD about having OCD.

Like, if I notice I kinda of obsess about something, or something bothers me for no apparent reason, I will go out of my way to do the opposite. That being said.....

-I can not sleep with my glasses on.

-I have to be covered up to sleep, no matter what the temp is.

-My underwear has to match my shirt (yeah, I know that one is really odd.)

-I can not use wooden spoons when I am cooking.

Anytime I have cash each bill has to be face up in the same direction with each denomination sorted from highest to lowest, no wrinkles in the bills either.

I'm very particular about how the laundry is sorted, washed, and folded.  I sort by color and also by item (pants, shirts, etc.)

When people sing the lyrics to songs incorrectly I freak out, maybe not out loud, but it drives me absolutely nuts! I will correct them eventually.

When I eat I chew my food on alternating sides of my mouth and will make sure that the bites come out even so that I chew the same number of times on each side of my mouth.  I also prefer it to be divisible by five.

Sometimes when I am thinking to myself I count the syllables in the words that I am thinking and make sure that is also divisible by five, or 25.

"Oh, she may be woolly...young girls, they do get woolly..."

LMAO!!! You people are crazy! I've been cracking up reading these posts and the one about phobias too!! You all have made me realize that I have some OCDs too:

I check the front door, sliding glass door, scary door in the dining room multiple times before going to bed.

My blinds have to be facing up and I like my blinds on my sliding door to be going to the right.

When getting out of the shower I have to move the shower curtain to the left. I cannot stand it if my boyfriend moves it to the right. Also the little knob that I pull up to turn the shower on has to be pushed down. I cannot stand leftover water dripping from the faucet.

I too have to have my programs on my computer at work opened in a certain order. My email has the be the last tab on the right. LOL

Let me see...what else...Oh I check my alarm clock multiple times too.

My television has to be on when I go to sleep. I prefer it to to be on NBC sometimes though so I can fall asleep to JaY Leno.

I used to not be able to wash my face or brush my teeth at the sink unless I had a towel laid down on the part where you rest your arms, but I don't need that anymore.

Oh I hate stepping out of the shower on a bare floor, too cold and nasty. Must have a towel or carpet down.

That's it for now. lolLaughing

i have to be early.

i know i have more, cant think of em

Wow, I wish my life was this simple...I was diagnosed with OCD in 2000 (but I have had it since childhood). It is not fun, it is debilitating at times. I used to take medication, but I choose not to due to side effects. I am trying to control it with: talk therapy, diet and excersise.

just curious...does anyone else actually have diagnosed OCD?

Thanks...I could not have said it better myself.
* When moving my leg (or any other body part that has a double to it) I do it on the other side also, and the same amount of times, to balance it out. Making things equal on both sides of my body is important.

* For breakfast I always have 1 shredded wheat and the soy milk I drink has to come to a particular place in the drinking cup I use to measure it with.

* For lunch I always have 1 peanut butter sandwich (2 slices of whole wheat bread and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter) along with 1 orange and 9 grapes. 9 because it is divisible by 3. I eat the crust first and then the middle whilst intermittently sipping water.

* My desert every day after dinner includes 6 grapes.

* I detest MSN-speak such as "u" and "lol", and become upset whenever I make a spelling error and have pressed enter already. I get annoyed and immediately correct myself.

* I line up objects (such as books and hairbrushes) so that they form a right angle with a wall/corner/other object.

* After I have a shower in the morning I jump 30 times to get the majority of water off of my body. I then shake my arms together with my left and right legs alternately 9 times.

* I wake up every morning at 5:04 AM because 5 + 0 + 4 = 9 and that is divisible by 3.

* The television volume must be set to a number divisible by 3.

* When using a cardio machine at the gym, the number of calories burned must always be divisible by 3. The amount of repititions of exercises must also be divisible by 3.

* The number of seconds that I heat food up for in the microwave must be divisible by 3.

* After washing my face in the mornings I dry it whilst doing 3 calf raises.
