Does Naproxen have sodium in it? Last night I was having pain in my knee (fybromyalgia) and I took one and today I noticed I was retaining alot of water. If anyone knows I would appreciate a answer to this.

Aleve is "naproxen sodium" so heck YES!

(from wikipedia):

>>Naproxen Sodium (INN) (pronounced /nəˈprɒksən/) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (N-SAID) commonly used for the reduction of moderate to severe pain, fever, inflammation and stiffness<<

.......

>>IP110 Naproxen Tablets: Like other NSAIDs, naproxen can inhibit the excretion of sodium and lithium. Extreme care must be taken by those who use this drug along with lithium supplements. Naproxen is also not recommended for use with NSAIDs of the salicylate family (Aspirin) (drugs may reduce each other's effects) or with anticoagulants (may increase risk of bleeding). Naproxen preparations containing sodium (e.g., Anaprox, Aleve, etc.) are not recommended for use in patients with sodium-sensitive hypertension, due to potential adverse effects on blood pressure in this small subset of hypertensive patients.<<

(and am I the only one that the pronunciation key looks like greek to?)

Yes I know I ended that with a preposition. Tongue out

Thank you so much that sure explains alot!!

Yup - I was really surprised but it does have alot depending on the specific Naproxen you are using.  Just google the name of the brand you are using and you can get the sodium content.  Does it have enough to cause you to retain water in one day I don't know - you should ask your doctor or better yet pharmacist about that.  I could be that your knee pain is causing some water on your knee so best to get it checked.

I had a prescription to take naproxen once a day for knee pain, after I stopped taking it I dropped 4 lbs in 2 weeks. So I would say it's definitely from the sodium in it!

I took it twice daily for two weeks not so long ago and it didnt hinder my weight loss.
