Naseous when working out- Any Advice
Recently I began working out a little more consistenly than normal. I have been doing cardio and bikram (hot yaoga), BUT everytime I work out I get sick. I thought maybe it was the multi-vitamin I was taking, but stopped that and it did not help. Then, I thought maybe it was the time of day I was working out. I used to work out at night, but now that I got laid off I tried the mornings. Thought maybe I had too much in my tummy, so I did not eat for 2 hours beforehand, no success. Then I thought maybe not enough in my tummy so had a granola bar 30 mins before. Still puking though. I am not overly out of shape, I am 27 and fairly fit. ANy advice. Oh, and no I am not pregnant.
What do you normally eat before working out? I used to get really sick to my stomach while working out, and I went and got some bloodwork done and it turned out that my blood sugar was really out of whack. I have since regulated it by eating smaller meals more frequently and making sure to get a good balance of protein, carbs, etc. Even still though, I have to have a really good snack before working out, or I get dizzy and feel sick. I usually have some yogurt and a small banana, or half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich....that's just what works for me.
Maybe try regulating your before-workout snacks, and make sure to drink plenty of water BEFORE your workout, as dehydration can make you feel sick too. You may want to consider getting some blood work done, just to make sure that everything is ok too...
A friend of mine does hot yoga, and she told me that a lot of people get sick when they are first doing it... because of the toxins coming out of your system or something. Even vomiting is supposed to be fairly common.
I think all the stuff the above poster said sounds like it could be a factor too. Don't try to work out on an empty stomach, but not a full one either (like, eat a small snack maybe a half hour before working out).
Also I find that if I push myself really hard in a workout, it can make me feel sick. I think it might be the adrenaline. I don't think that would be a factor with yoga, although I know some forms are more intense than others. I've only ever done the boring slow kind of yoga so I don't really know :) I've never thrown up from working out too hard but I've heard people say that they have.
I'd look at when you get sick ... is it long into the workout (as in, you might be overheating) or when you first start. Maybe it's a matter of getting into shape. Maybe you're just pushing yourself past your comfort level ... which is alright, I suppose .... it should pass after a while.
Also, how many times a week are you working out? If you just do one intense workout a week, you aren't giving your body enough exercise to aclimate itself to your exercising.
yeah I used to get this all the time too at first. Anything intense. I found my heart was out of shape! I had a heart rate of 200 bpm (which is like 100% of my maximum) when running for like 10 mins. I also got dizzy and nearly passed out a few times. It just took time but make sure to listen to your bod and hopefully it will decrease with time.
Thanks for the input, I have noticed that it is when i workout in the morning. I guess, not enough in the tummy. I ran sunday afternoon and did bikram yoga last night and not pukety-puke. I think it has something to do with taking my vitamins, and the pill first thing in the morning.
you sound thirsty to me.
ESPECIALLY with the yoga OI.
Try to increase your fluids and REALLY pick up some Gatoraid I KNOW how much you sweat in Bakeram Yoga, so you really need to restore your electrolites.

The pill makes me WAY sick. I talked to my OB/GYN about that and he recommended me taking it at night before sleep. Same with vity's. I take the majority of my supplements at night. Can't puke in your sleep ;). G'luck girly!
