i was just wondering, how many people on this site are not americans. In other words, you live in U.S./Canada/Europe but your nationality may be russian, greek, german etc.
Thanks!
I am second generation American born in California
(the Peninsula /Bay Area)
Ohio is now my home, the great state that bore my multi-gen. American husband he has traced back as far as the 1700’s.
My family:
English (Both), Irish (Mother), Scottish (B?), Welsh (Father), German (B),
Polish (M),*Russian (B),*Jewish (B) ((disputed*)) and newly discovered Dane (M)...
Maternal Grandmother raised in Belgium for a time...
Paternal Grandmother born and raised in Canada, some time spent in Washington during the Spanish Flu epidemic 1918...
Paternal Grandfather was born in Wales.
This is all we know so far, I hope to learn more.
Has anyone considered tracing genealogy through DNA?
www.dnaancestryproject.com Find ethnic and geographic origins.
This is just one site out of thousands to look at.
I have thought about this if only out of curiosity...someday perhaps.
There are too many holes in our family. Trace the family tree (Dane) but how authentic would the info be.
There was a rumor maternal grandpa was adopted but that has been changed to where did you ever hear that! (Same person 30 yrs apart)
The main persons to ask are not here and the one who is how much do they really know anymore.
I am proud to descend from such cultures everyone should be proud of their ties and if this includes adoption FANTASTIC !!
I have cousins and a step son-in-law who are adopted, the son-in-law wants no part of finding his family, however the children want to know ESPECIALLY since they are now having their own children (3yr.)
(1 on the way).
In some way a similar curiosity.
I would like to satisfy my lifelong curiosity and pass the info to my nieces and nephews.
My husband (raised 7children / 2 were his) and I were fortunate to have felines that take after him...big ears and what an appetite! I like to think they have my eyes. 2 of the 5 had blue.
A joke between Grandma and my husband...
In memory of Sherman 1991 ( 92 home ) - 2002 (Cream/blue eyed/crooked tail) our eldest started the family and joke,(named after daddy).
Snowpea (white/blue eyed) 1991 ( 95 home ) - 2006, (see her picture)
Scrapper (orange /lemon yellow eyed) 1994?-? Neighborhood Rascal
Puffy (black & white /lemon eyed) and Callie (calico/golden copper eyed) 2002 & 2005 present
* New Addition:Ariadne "Addie",Callie's twin except she has a black mask and eyes are greenish grayish gold present as of 8.17.07
No need to figure their genealogy we tell them they are our babies :)
but...
25% Irish
25% Lithiuanian
25% English
23% German
2% Spanish
(approximately)
1/2 Italian (though my great-grandmother was a blue-eyed orphan so maybe some Swiss or German -- "Meinardi" shows Germanic roots)
1/4 French Canadian (with an alleged dash of Objibwe or Cherokee, thank you fur traders)
1/4 Croatian (except I think my other great-grandmother may have been Slovanian or Slovakian. The borders of those countries never want to stay put. Plus my dad has been mistaken for a Hasidic Jew so who knows?)
I'm saving up to take that mitochondrial DNA test. And my dad's expressed interest in having his Y chromosome DNA tested too. It'd be fun to see where our ancestors hailed from.
I was born in South Africa. My paternal grandfather was Australian & paternal granmother was S.African. My maternal grandparents were British. I now live in England and moved here when I was 12
ALL FROTHBEAST
But currently living in England..
Nice to meet you all ;)
By marriege I became Swiss. Because of my profession, I traveled over the world and now, I live in USA - 4 years in Boston and 4 years in IA.
Family came here 1600's from England. My Mom's side. Her dad was Polish came here 1860's Dad's side German 1860's and Norwegian as well. The British bloodline includes Scottish and wee bit of Irish. I am proud of them all! I cannot stand most of the ethnic food choices except the Polish. I love Spicy foods!
