i was just wondering, how many people on this site are not americans. In other words, you live in U.S./Canada/Europe but your nationality may be russian, greek, german etc.
Thanks!
My paternal grandfather has had the geneology researched and that side is some literal came over on the Mayflower genes, but when they immigrated they stayed in Massachusetts for 2-3 generations and then moved to northern Vermont on the Canadian border. Paternal grandmother is French Canadian. Maternal grandmother is Wampanoag Native American, maternal grandfather was English/Wampanoag. The only thing I have that makes me look even a little bit Native American is naturally black hair and black eyes, though. I didn't get the nice skin, I'm wicked pale. :)
I am half english and half welsh.
I hate when people ask this question, and I hate it even worse when people go on and on about their ancestry or bait you into asking them about their ancestry.
And I REALLY hate it when they say, "I'm Irish, that means I can DRINK hard!" Then the next week you find someone who says, "I'm Indian (Native American), we were made to drink!"
And of course every nationality can drink and hold their liquor, it's just formulaic, just place your nationality into "I am X, therefore I can drink a lot!"
I MEAN REALLY PEOPLE!
Part English, Part Irish living in Dubai.
Original Post by fortius:Yeah, but although most nations have a drink of their origin, for some reason the 3 that get most stereotyped as being drunks are Irish, Native American, and Russian. Though it's somehow more acceptable to joke about Irish drunks.I hate when people ask this question, and I hate it even worse when people go on and on about their ancestry or bait you into asking them about their ancestry.

These things are subject to change though. I remember a college professor bringing in examples of journalism from the turn of the last century where all these sorts of negative stereotypes were being projected onto Chinese immigrants--that they were drunk/drug addicts, dirty, had too many babies, etc. You don't hear those stereotypes about them now. And Irish were pretty much despised whether they were drunk or sober.
I have a ton of stuff in my background but I'm primarily Irish and Cuban, so I guess I can drink a lot...of malta.
I'm from Chile =) 3/4 of my grandparents were Spanish, though.
German, Scottish, Iroquois Indian (on my mom's side. My dad has Native American on his side too, but I have no idea what tribe.) and of course American.
I suspect I have some welsh as well. (but only a little.)
My heritage is Italian, French, and Native American Choctaw tribe. I’m an American. <3 Everyone should be proud of their heritage and nationality.
I'm pretty much Canadian (4th generation, at least), but my roots go back to Scotland and England. There's the possibility of a little First Nations in there as well. Everyone can see it (in my mom's great aunts and uncle's), but no one can trace it! My mom even joined a geneology website haha.
I am half Cherokee and half German-I am a long blonde haired, blue eyed indian! I love my Native American heritage so much - I wish I had the darker skin though...sighs......
I'm African, I subscribe to the out-of-Africa theory of human evolution.
I was born here(NY), mom is from Guatemala, her dad was from El Salvador and her mom from Spain. My dad is from Puerto Rico.
