any favorites? sometimes need one...
Umm. Let's see. Prunes and prune juice are supposed to be good.
Really, anything you can eat that has good amounts of fiber will help as well. Fiber won't make you "go" overnight or anything...but if you increase your fiber intake and keep it steady every day, it will help you be more regular. I'm up to about 20-25 grams of fiber per day and I've become very regular.
I grind up Flax seeds and Psylium and put it on my Oatmeal or in my Fruit shakes in the morning. Psylium I got at the health food store and it looks like Flaxseed but you must grind them up to get the entire health bennefits.
I grind up a bunch in my Coffee grinder place in a plastic bag and stick it in the freezer to keep fresh.
When I did Weight watchers if I added 1 TBS of Psylium in something I could subtract a point off what ever I was eating because it was natural Fibre.
I've started eating the fiber one peanut butter bars for my afternoon snack along with eating a fiber rich cereal in the mornings. I am absolutely addicted to the fiber one bars now though! They are delicious!!
I personally like to eat prunes (as peaches0405 suggested). I'm not so fond of prune juice, but I know people who are.
As for foods high in fiber, I recently became introduced to the Quaker High Fiber Instant Oatmeal. It's quite tasty with 10g of fiber per serving, and when I'm not up to cooking breakfast, I go the instant oatmeal route.
Cranberries are supposed to be good to help you clean out your system. By themselves they are too sour for me, so I eat dried cranberries - Craisins. They are great for a quick snack and taste great in cereal.
Senna, being a stimulant laxative, can render you laxative dependent in the long term. I do use Yogi Get Regular tea occasionally, which contains senna.
Miralax-available at drugstores, literally draws water to your bowels to-enforce things-but gently. Considered a "non-laxative laxative" by my doctors, but effective in combination with Psyllium husks(such as Metamucil.)
Triphala-Ayurvedic remedy available in tablets or hellfire-tasting tea that definitely helps to smoothe things along, with the stimulant effect of senna.
colace-stool softener, little red pills, i'm sure everyone knows this one
And for the most part, a good serving of insoluble fiber(ex. 1 svng fiber one) with a bit of fat(try one CLA or flaxseed capsule, or unsweetened almond milk) and a fair bit of caffeine will get you there anyway.
I love Fiber One bars also, chocolate chip and peanut butter. They're almost like having a candy bar. I eat one for breakfast with coffee in the morning at work. The high fiber or weight control instant oatmeal is also great for breakfast. Lots of veggies and fruits also have good fiber. I also take fiber supplements, but not everyday. They don't make you go but they supplement my daily low fiber intake.
