Natural Organic Acne Treatment That Works?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi All-

I've suffered from acne all my life and am now almost 27. I'd like to find a more natural treatment as the typical benzoyl peroxide and acids don't work and also tend to dry my skin (even though my skin is oily). My husband and I are thinking about trying for our first baby in the near future, so I'd also like to find something that is safe and natural to use during the pregnancy. Has anyone here ever had acne problems and found something that's natural to treat it that actually works? Thanks!

Tea tree oil worked just as well as benzoyl peroxide during studies.  Don't know if it's safe during pregnancy though.  You'll have to look that up.  You might also want to check out this thread.  http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/9348 2.html

I like Korres products. They have an acne regimen kit that doesn't seem medicinal at all.

The irony is that having a baby might straighten out your hormones enough to stop your acne.

I never had acne a day in my life until after I had my first (and only) child. I've had it ever since. A doctor told me another pregnancy might straighten out my hormones and end my acne woes!

Good luck! With the acne and the baby!!!Smile

For some people, applying oil (olive, vitamin E, jojoba, etc) to the areas with acne actually clears it up, the oil can act as a cleanser/solvent without drying out your skin.  It works well for me on dry flakey or dirty skin (elbows, behind the ears, belly button, scalp), but seems to be intermittent with acne.

I have super sensitive and dry skin.

I have found one face was that doesn't irritate my skin at all. It's "natural based," but I don't think it's 100% natural, so I'm not sure on the pregnancy issue. I'll leave a link to the site though, so at least you can check it out.

I've only used the complexion cream and face wash, but I'm thinking about trying some of their other products.

Wow! That Oil treatment regimen is pretty interesting. I'm just a little nervous about trying that since my skin is already so oily naturally....

This solution is NOT SAFE to use while pregnant - but you might consider trying it first, before trying to get pregnant - I had acne my whole life and didn't find a cure until I was in my 20's and was prescribed accutane. You absolutely can not take it while pregnant, just want to make that clear.

Yeah, I'm really trying to stick to natural remedies, but thanks for the recommendation anyhow, katann.

Shea, I'm a natural oil slick.  My skin has always been really oily (most parts, my forehead is dry), and I actually find my skin less oily when using the oil cleansing method than when using traditional facial cleansers and moisturizers.  Less oily but in no way dried out.

Yeah, I think it has to do with the fact that applying oils to your body causes it to think it needs to produce less since there's already oil on the surface of your skin, so applying oil would overal decrease the oiliness of your skin.

The oil cleansing method doesn't make your skin oily unless you do it wrong.  Most of the time I found my skin was too dry when I was doing the oil cleansing method.

If you find any method that works, I'd love to hear about it.  I've had extremely severe acne since I was 11 (at times the cysts have gone so deep and become so sensitive changing facial expression is painful enough to make me tear up).  I've been on every medicine in the drug store, at least a dozen different prescriptions, tried the OCM with a few different oils, even tried eliminating certain foods from my diet.  Nothing I've tried has worked.

But if I find something, I'll let you know.  I'm constantly trying new things, lol.
