Natural Peanut Butter - Can't go back now!

Quote  |  Reply

So I bought a jar of that Smuckers Natural PB. The kind with the oil floating on top... the kind that needs to be refrigerated... but best of all, the kind who's ingredients say only "Peanuts, Salt" (and oddly enough WARNING: CONTAINS PEANUTS... reaaally!?)

So I put it to the taste test on a slice of my favorite Arnold Double Fiber whole grain bread after stirring the silly poop out of it. It visually resembled the bathroom after-effects of a big 3 AM post-party Denny's meal, but I didn't let that stop me!

I slathered on a heaping tablespoon (presuming that is a serving, it says 2 tbsp, I'm assuming always that means level) of 210 calorie bliss onto my 90 calorie bread, and ate with a banana on the side. Holy crap. I love it!

It tastes (rightfully so) like mashed up peanuts. It's got little granule bits in it, but for the most part is smooth. However, since it doesn't have what I think is other vegetable oils, it isn't SUPER creamy like Jif. This may be a turn off to some of you. It also doesn't taste at all sweet, as many commercial peanut butters do. I like this also, I prefer to just taste "PEANUT"

If you haven't though, you really should try it... it's delicious, imho. I want to mix some rolled oats into some and see if that combo is awesome.

If you have a food processor you should try making your own.  You haven't lived 'til you've had fresh nut butter (btw, my favorite is cashew) warm and fresh out of the food processor.  Heaven on a spoon.  Smile

I don't! :(

It's on my list for either when I move into my dorm or an apartment.

I bought some Smuckers Natural (crunchy) about a week ago.  Took me FOREVER to stir it up, but it is definitely fantastic.  I try to stick to just one tablespoon per slice of 45-calorie bread, but it's hard.  Soooooooo yummy!!!!  I had extra calories left over yesterday, so had TWO tablespoons on the bread.  What a treat!!

oh i didn't stir, i drained out the oil on top still tasted fine.

Didn't stir?  Now, I never thought of that!!  I'm thinking that would reduce the calories??  I wonder by how much.  That's quite a bit of oil.

Well 1 tbs is 120 calories. So depends how much you drain out. The overall reduction, considering number of servings in a jar, probably won't be that much. I am guessing 10-20 per serving.

Well, duh!! I'm suck a dork.  Didn't realize the oil is about the same as any other oil, calorie-wise.  Thanks for the heads-up.

The MaraNatha All natural No Stir Almond Butter is very good too.  I love it.  My kids even like it.  Excellent on toast.

yeah i would suppose you need to see how many tbs are on top and divide it by the servings as UD said.

I don't bother I count it as the same, and I never tried it without dumping the top oils out - so it tastes the same to me.  And it is good.

Crazy Richard's Natural peanut butter can be kept in the fridge and it doesn't get hard -- and it doesn't re separate after you stir it (some natural peanut butters are too hard if you pour off all the peanut oil).

But -- that is the only kind of PB I've been eating (don't ususally keep it as I tend to binge on it), and thought I'd try the Smart Balance Omega 3 PB (can't go wrong with extra omega 3...) -- and it is too salty for me Cry

it's only 110mg of sodium, but I guess, since I've been eating no salt PB that it is really concentrated for me.  Either way, it means I throw out a $4 jar of PB...

I've had that kind! I love it also. But I really like all natural peanut butters. There's no way I'll ever go back to that super processed trans fatty stuff!

oh no- i just read what you wrote coach k

i havn't had the pb since i opened it..  it may be hard now...
but i think i remember doing this in the past, though not with this brand. (smuckers)

i also try not to eat it too much bc i can go crazy with PB.

I really want to try the natural pb with oil on top. I've had the skippy natural PB (both creamy and crunch) but it's the no stir kind.  I will get the stuff with the oil next time I'm at the store; however, i do tend to go a little crazy with PB...

Just minutes ago I snacked on a tablespoon of Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter (crunchy).  Deeeeeelicious!!!!!  I may never try another brand.
