Natural Peanut Butter worth it?

Quote  |  Reply

I noticed today that the natural peanut butter has around 40 more calories compared to the Jiffy kind. But I know i've read a lot on here about always going for natural because its healthier. But is it really that much healthier or should I go with the lower calorie option?

I eat Skippy Natural PB and it actually has 10 less calories than the regular Skippy.

Ingredients in Jiffy peanut butter:
PEANUTS, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, SUGAR AND SOY PROTEIN, CONTAINS 2 PERCENT OR LESS OF: FULLY HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OILS (RAPESEED AND SOYBEAN), SALT, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, MOLASSES, NIACINAMIDE, FOLIC ACID, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, MAGNESIUM OXIDE, ZINC OXIDE, FERRIC ORTHOPHOSPHATE, AND COPPER SULFATE.

Ingredients in natural peanut butter:

Peanuts, [in some brands] salt.

I like to be able to picture (or at least pronouce) all the ingredients in my food.

haha good point, I'll go with the natural peanut butter. thanksSmile

also, another question. you know how the oil goes to the top in natural peanut butter? to save calories, could you just drain some of it?

might be a stupid question..but i'm curious so i'm asking.

Mix it in - the oil is good for you (good fat) plus the pb will be really hard to spread without it.

Could you also use that leftover oil as cooking peanut oil?

Yes it all depends on what your comfortable with putting into your body.

Natrual PB is the best. I just have store brand but my fave is Smuckers natrual PB. yummm It is sooo much better tasting than normal PB. After eating natrual regular jiffy tastes sugary to me. Not good at all.

I know I used to eat it and it was very gritty.  But as far as protein standards I would have 2tblsp. with smuckers 100% grape jelly on a rice cake for breakfast or just as a snack.  It gave me a full feeling meal and kept me full for a pretty good while.
