could this be my natural weight?

so i started at 185 quite a while ago, and now i am down to 140-143. I have been maintaining this weight for about 2 months. I can't lose no matter what I do. I have tried more calories, less calories, more exercise, less exercise, low carb, low fat, everything! and i cant stay below 140 for more than a day or two. does this mean i should just focus on maintaining or should i try something different?

**i am 5'6" by the way.
thanks. =]

if this is easy for you to maintain i would just stick with it and focus on toning and maintaining. this is still a good weight for you and you shouldn't force your body into a mold based on a number, everyone has different bone structure, metabolism, and genetics which determine our ideal weight. congrats on the loss :)

thanks for the advice. =]

Different things look good on different bodies!

Anything over 115 lbs (BMI of 19) actually looks big on my body ( I already have HUGE breasts at this slim weight!)

A BMI of 21 , or, for instance, 130 lbs would look emaciated - our bodies are just all so different which is the great thing and makes life interesting!

Remember, you can look just as fit as some one who weighs less - if you look after your body and figure out what it responds best to and try your best then you will look just as healthy and fit as a smaller person.

Lately, I have had time off the gym and much heavier people then me look more toned and fit despite weighing more then me, so congratulations on the weight loss, now you just have to put the same effort into finding a fun and balanced way to maintain a healthy body!

You are actually close to my height I'm 5 foot 5 inches and 3/4 and you happen to be at my goal weight 140. My advice listen to your body, I've only gone below 140 for a couple of months and I gained it back. I've been hovering around 147 but recently was able to get to 144 and maybe 140 by the end of May. I know what looks good on me and I'm sure you know what looks good on you.

Do you feel good at your current weight? Can you honestly look in the mirror and say I like what I see and how I feel if so stick with it, it's in a healthy range. I also don't know if this whole BMI thing take into account, bust size, hips etc probably not.

I know exactly what you are going through. I am 5'5 and a half and went down from 155 pounds to 140 and have been this weight for about a month. My goal weight was 132 pounds. April was a difficult month for me with Easter, Birthdays and a weekend away, I also started gyming more seriously now, and I am proud of myself for maintaining.

Right now I feel good, and I get compliments. I will try more seriously to lose weight in May and if it doesn't happen I will be okay with it. I think the number is mostly a vanity thing, for me anyway. I see a lot of people here with a goal weight of 120 pounds and sometimes it makes me feel 'fat' because I am 20 pounds over that. I agree with chrissy1988, it is just a number and focus on toning and healthy eating, thats what I plan on doing.

That's right... just tone yourself up!  If you struggle and force yourself down to a lower weight, it may be impossible to maintain if your body fights you tooth and nail the whole way!  My mother-in-law was so proud of herself for getting down to a size 0 after months of rigorous dieting and exercise awhile back, but was only able to maintain it for a few weeks, even though she continued to eat healthy and stay fit.  If you can maintain 140 eating sensibly, great!  Do some weight work and keep up the cardio and make those 140 pounds fit and slim and shapely.

I'm in the same situation! I'm about 5 pounds from my goal weight but no matter what I did my weight stayed the same. So I've decided to maintain for a few months and then tackle the last few pounds. It's probably a good idea to give your body a rest from all the dieting anyhow, to allow your metabolism to get used to more calories. I haven't been counting for at least a month (although I've kept up the exercise) and I haven't gained any weight. It was so stressful to count and count and not see the scales go down, but now I don't have to stress about it. And it's great to know that I can maintain this weight.

140lbs is a perfectly slim, healthy weight for someone 5'6".... if you're medium-framed you're not going to get much below that and be able to maintain it.  In my opinion it's better to be a healthy weight for life than it is to waste time trying to hit some mythical ideal that can't be sustained.  Enjoy...

thanks everyone for advice and encouragement, and i hope you all reach your goals. =]
