Nausea during my work out...

Quote  |  Reply

Okay so twice in the past 2 weeks I've only been able to make it about half way through my work out.  I get about 30-40 minutes in and I feel so sick I have to stop in fear of tossing my cookies all over the gym.  What gives?

I am doing my same routine for the most part, nothing drastically different. About 15-30 minutes before I work out I always eat a piece of bread with either some peanut butter or cheese (I have regular meals/snacks during the day).  I drink lots of water during the day and during my work out.

All I can think is my blood sugar is dropping too much and I need to change what I eat before I work out.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Had this happen to me recently, twice.  I had changed up my workout and was trying to push myself harder with less rest (30 seconds) between sets of lifting.  Found that I needed to make sure I had eaten enough food prior to going to my workout and that I was pushing myself harder than I could handle.  I had to back off slightly and increased my rest period between sets to 45 seconds.  That was still down from 60-75 seconds previously.

Carbs are a good source of energy prior to workout.  You might want to grab an energy bar and take with you to your workout.  Also keeping hydrated is good.  I use a low sugar sport drink with some electrolytes in it to help replenish those as I tend to lose a lot of fluids when I work out (sweat).

Each of us is different and this can happen for a lot of reasons.  Make adjustments slowly (one at a time) so you can issolate the cause.

Thanks!

When I first started working out with a trainer I barely ate anything before a workout and while doing sprints uphill with him, it took everything I had not to puke on the side of the road. Since then I always make sure I eat something significant before a work out. I read somewhere that eating 60 - 90 min before a workout (and I'm talking real eating, not a piece of bread) is the best because that gives the body time enough to digest and gives the muscles energy. It has worked for me so far and I don't have that horrible "I'm going to be sick" feeling. So try eating more before workouts and keep drinking that water. Hope it works!

When I do squats I tend to breath wrongly which makes me very very nauseous. Since you have eaten something it could also be that you hold your breath or breath too fast. Since I started to watch my breathing while doing this exercise it is a bit better. Not all yet but I'm getting there.
