US navy body fat % calculator says I'm obese
I'm female, 5'3", 125 lbs, so my BMI is 22.5 or so. This online body fat calculator thing I did uses a bunch of measurements - chest, waist, hips, neck, forearm, to calculate (I suppose estimate would be a more appropriate verb to use) your body fat %. I got 32.2%. ( http://www.webcalcsolutions.com/Fitness-Calcu lators/Body-Fat-Navy.asp?AcctNum=3 ) If my math is correct, that means my lean % is 85 lbs, and if I was at a fit body fat % of 20% I would weigh 106 lbs, given I don't gain any muscle.
That would put me in the underweight category.
Please tell me this calculator is off and that I am not obese. Granted, I am not strong, and I don't lift weights or anything, but I run fairly regularly, bike a lot, and play vigorous sports recreationally.
i wouldn't worry. at your weight and height you are perfectly healthy
Umm, does it really matter what an online calculator tells you?
You are 5'3 and 125 lbs - there is no physical way you could possibly be obese.
Go to your local gym, and ask them to measure your Body Fat % - the only truly accurate way to measure BF% is with calipers - even the digital scales that send impulses through your body are not correct in measuring body fat.
When I was in the Air Force...there was a time when I weighed 164lbs (6lbs heavier than I am now) and they put me on the weight management program! I was way skinner than a lot of people in my unit but according to their standards I was overweight!
I just tried it out of curiosity, and I actually think that is might just be becase you need to click in a different spot after you are done entering the info. As I was putting in my measurements it kept changing, and said I was obese too. ( 1 am 5'4" 140) Until I clicked out of the neck measurement spot to the top, and it changed to acceptable. Try messing with the numbers a bit. Don't worry, there is no way you are obese!
Your numbers must be wrong - I am 5'2", 119 pounds, waist 29, hips 33 and neck 13 and it has me as fit.
