I nearly kill myself at the gym just to burn 600 kcal...how do people burn 1000 or more!?!
I don't get it! I have a polar HRM and I am WIPED and push myself to burn between 500-700 kcal during my cardio at the gym, I don't how people burn 900-1000+!!! Unless they are using the machines 'calories burned as a reference' then that would be understandable..
everyday I run 6-7 miles between a 7:40-8:15 pace and do the stepmill interval workout 20-25 minutes(depending on how far i run) on level 6 or 7 and somedays I do the elliptcal for 15 minutes on level 8 and after that I'm exhausted!
I'm happy with my burn now...just curious how people do that much more! I am in the best shape of my life and I'd think I'd keel over before I hit 1,000!
You probably have the most fit heart of all. That's awesome. I wish I could run like that. Maybe your watch is set differently. When I first started to work out according to my age and such they set my level that I actually burn fat @ 132 for my heart. But I just did another test and it has been re-set to 172.
Maybe it's time to re-set your watch since your heart (muscle) is in such great shape.
I envy you.
The better shape you are in, the fewer calories you will burn per minute while exercising.
yeah my Resting Heart Rate was 42 last time I checked and I probably should re-set my watch...and getting in this shape was HFW (hard **bleepin** work) last year at this time I could barely finish 2 miles!
Trhawley..that makes sense lol dur
Weight lifting...intense sports such as martial arts, gymnastics, rock climbing.

No it's Pot Belge.
Funny people here! Actually, the heavier you are, the more cals you burn just moving around, so yeah, it's easier to get to 1000. I don't aim for that, but I can hit it pretty easily in one 90 minute soccer game. Probably when I'm not so big, I won't burn so much in that same type of game.
Gotta add one thing here, it is NOT so simple as mkculs makes it sound. Your muscle mass is what causes calories to be burnt, therefore, you could hypothetically have a 250 lb person with 35% body fat who would burn fewer calories than someone who was say, 170 lbs with 8% body fat doing the exact same excercises. Sure the bigger person would appear to be working much harder, but in reality, the calories burnt aren't going to be super high.
I can't burn 1000 calories in an hour (would be nice, though
). But I can burn a few thousand by hiking 6 - 10 hours with a 3K to 6K elevation gain, which I do every weekend. Sometimes the tortoise has advantages over the hare!

So you burn 500-700 calories in 15-25 minute workouts? Because that's a pretty high amount in a relatively short period of time.

Ehh, re-read her post. She says she runs 6-7 miles then does stepmill, and after that she sometimes does elliptical. All of that combined burns 500-700 Calories.

Wow! Even with Beta Blockers and other heart & bp drugs my resting hr is only 48! Wait until you get to my age and see how few calories you burn, then compound it with various drugs that screw with your metabolism. I can't even trust my Polar F4 hrm to give me correct calorie burn. I generally use the Calorie King web site for calorie burn calulations because it takes, age, height, weight, sex into acccount. Am begining to believe the calorie burn I get from my Forerunner 301 though. It correlates well with Calorie King and RunningAhead.com web sites.

Oops, missed the stepmill part. I thought it was a little strange!
try looking into KETTLEBELL workouts, they burn fat, tone and are a cardio work out once you get the basics down and pick up speed... check it out on You Tube i do them with a personal trainer .... best work out ever.
getting to a 1000 deficit is hard work! The only way I can do it is if I work out 60 min in the am followed by another 120 minutes or less in the pm. all depending on what I'm doing.

hehe...thats funny!.....but sadly could be true!
I have the same problem. I did an extra long spinning class last night (1hr 45min) and I burned 800 calories. A 45min step class plus a 45 min weight lifting class burns 500-600. Knowing how hard it is to burn calories makes me really think twice about my food choices.
